Despite some of the comments of fellow travellers about Shell employees choosing to stay in other locations - I would have thought they stayed in other locations to get away from fellow employees, as opposed to because of the hotel - I've stayed here a few times and would stay here again. Any time!
It's comfortable and interesting rooms, and the food served in the restaurant is of excellent quality. Help yourself to fruit on your way in or out of the hotel.
Only downside is lack of free WiFi in rooms. Get it sorted and this would be a near perfect option for business travellers in the Rijswijk area.
PS! :( I marked down 'Service' because staff forgot to wash my coffee cup and replenish tea/coffee stocks from previous day's usage on my last stay in December 2011; though admittedly this was a once-off...

Your comment concerning free WiFi in the rooms is totally understandable. Please rest assured that we are aware of the lack of free WiFi. We are exploring the options available to us, to soon provide wireless internet in the entire hotel.

Please note, that I informed and pointed housekeeping to your comment concerning your coffee and tea facilities. I will make sure this will not happen again.

“Lovely experience”

I was on vacation, visiting my daughter and son-in-law who live in Zwolle. We had a little trouble finding the parking, but the rooms were very nice. The TV wasn't working in their room and they were immediately transferred to another room, right across the hall. They took advantage of the nearby shopping while I enjoyed the quiet room and took pictures of the bathroom to show my friends and family in the United States when I got home! When they returned from shopping we went to the lounge to relax, it was quiet and peaceful. Other than there was quite a line at check out time and at first only one girl to handle the crowd, more help arrived and things moved fairly smoothly. All in all, I would recommend the Grand Winston Hotel to everyone.

“Striclty a hotel for people on business and alone!”

This hotel is famous for being the hotel used by Shell staff travelling on business, as it is directly opposite the Shell HQ. But even now many Shell people are opting to stay in hotels in the city centre and commute in as they are fed up with this quirky hotel. Location for the non-business guest is not great- Rijswijk is a bit miserable with only a few shops and restuarants near by, although a train or tram journey into The Hague isn't too far. I found the hotel reception staff very friendly and helpful, but the same could not be said for some of the restuarant and bar staff. Quite rude at times.

Pros:
Good sized rooms
Comfortable bed
Quality of food at dinner and breakfast was quite good

Cons:
Glass-walled bathrooms makes staying with a partner awkward and unpleasant
No WiFi - cannot believe a modern hotel these days with no wifi!!
Very poorly lit rooms
Also the lighting and atmosphere in the bar and restaurant area is horrible

I find it a pity as this is such a large, modern and clean hotel with nice big bedrooms. If only they could change the depressing lighting and decor and add some WiFi, it could actually be quite good.

Thank you for your comprehensive review and compliments regards our reception staff. We are very happy to hear your positive feedback about the room and the quality of our food. We pointed our reception and kitchen personnel to your review. However, we are very disappointed that you had an unpleasant experience with our restaurant personnel. I can assure you a full investigation, with corrective action will take place to prevent this matter in the future.

Please rest assured that we are aware of the lighting issues in the rooms, we are testing all lighting in the rooms. Note that we are currently exploring the options available to us, to soon provide wireless internet in both the guest rooms and all public areas.

“Novelty bathrooms”

This is a fairly new hotel located very close to Rijswijk railway station and tram stop. From either you can explore the surrounding area, which is a good thing as Rijswijk is not what you would call scenic. There is a large shopping mall about 5 minutes walk away and a couple of restaurants but not much else. I recommend taking the train to the Hague as it's cheap and only takes about 10 minutes. The hotel itself has a huge picture of Churchill in Reception, which is quite impressive. On the first floor you'll find the bar area - just a few seats and tables and also the restaurant. The food is OK but the portions are quite small and it's pretty expensive (around £25 for a steak). Breakfast is buffet style and is taken in a large room something akin to a school dining hall - long rows of tables. The breakfast itself is very Dutch, with lots of bread, cheese and sliced meats. Not very inspiring.There is also the option to have hard or soft boiled eggs or, if you can wait a couple of minutes, the chef will cook you an omelette. The rooms are well sized and the beds comfortable but the main feature has to be the bathroom - it has glass walls !! Fortunately I've never had to share with anyone ! Oil company Shell fill this place most of the time as their training centre is only a couple of minutes walk away, and that's why I stay there. Unfortunately there is no free wi-fi so it loses a few points from the business perspective.

Thank you for visiting The Grand Winston Hotel and for taking the time to review your experience. We are happy to hear that you enjoyed your room and the comfortable bed as well a the interior design of an impressive Churchill in the lobby area. Thank you for pointing out the portion size and the price of the main dishes, we will follow up with the head chef. The Grand Canteen and the breakfast room are indeed styled in the same design, which create the opportunity for interaction among guests, if wished for. The breakfast is indeed served in a buffet style where the guests have a choice of a variety of bread. Good to hear that you enjoyed the home cooked omelet of the chef.

Furthermore, I would like to inform you that we are currently exploring the options available to us regarding complimentary WIFI. We are hoping to offer complimentary WIFI to all our guests in 2012.

This hotel's female reception is too bad. They treat customers with contempt. I'll not come to this hotel again.
