“Poor service and amenities for 4 star, trouble with bill”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 August 2011

For a four star hotel the amenities were horrible. I've stayed at nicer Motel 6's! Additionally they did not honor the reservation details (rate w/o breakfast) and after the week had charged us an addition 60 Euros for the w/ breakfast rate despite the conformation number and initial reservation details.

“Nice, but see-through bathroom walls!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 July 2011

Stayed here recently for one night on business. It is a smart modern place, with efficient and polite staff, though not particularly friendly. Typical 4* good quality business hotel room, except for the extremely strange clear glass bathroom walls, which do not even reach the ceiling. Essentially a partial glass partition between the bed and the bathroom. Thank goodness I was staying here alone. The room consequently got very damp and steamy when I had a shower, I was kept awake by a dripping tap, and I had to close the wooden window shutters when I wanted to use the bathroom since otherwise someone could potentially see straight through the window and into the bathroom.

The roomservice dinner was ok, very quick service but overpriced and high room service tray charge. Roomservice breakfast was good.

No kettle. Large TV with good channels.

Room was overpriced.

I will try and find an alternative when next in the area, otherwise this place will have to do I guess. They have a captive audience for people needing to stay in the area.

“Great hotel, good service, but ...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 July 2011

We rented a few comfort rooms in this hotel and also an apartment suite.

Comfort Rooms:
Quite large rooms with boxspring beds. All the comforts are present, like TV, AirCon, water cooker with coffee and thee, safe, etc. The rooms are clean. One has to consider one aspect about the room: the 'wet cell' is a glass wall in the corner of the room. This glass wall is partly made off frosted glass, but normal glass stripes are there. This means a person in the room can see another person in the wet cell. Also the glass wall is not reaching the ceiling. If your not among strangers in that room, it is a great room.

Apartment suite:
On arrival we encountered some difficulties with the room: the coffee machine and phone were not working, and the AirCon was making a strange sound. The reception of the hotel made swift arrangements and satisfactory solutions were being offered. Also due to the inconvenience we were offered to have a free round of drinks in the bar or restaurant.
The room itself is amazing (and that is a word I am not using frequently). It is very spacious, it contains a kitchen with cuttery, dinner-set, and machinery like dish washer, coffee machine, cooking plates, etc. Rain shower, audio/visual system, and many things more.

Hotel:
The location of the hotel is very convenient. It is quiet (because it is situated in a business area); train station, tram stop and some restaurants around the corner, and the shopping mall (Boogerd) is about 5 min. walk. The hotel is a design hotel, has two restaurants (one haute cuisine and one more basic; we ate at the second one and it was good), a lounge area, and a fitness room. The breakfast was very good, there are many choices on display.
In this hotel stay many persons related to Shell (their head quaters is next door), also for a longer period. This hotel is mainly a business hotel. The reception is very helpful and professional.

“Winston himself would ask for a face lift...”

This hotel is like an old familiar friend for those that stay here but during this last visit, I couldn't help but notice the aging television, the lack of WiFi and clock radios in the rooms, and a few other missing niceties. Asked for converters from the front desk and only one of the two worked; room was missing an internet cable that they swore should be in there somewhere ("did you look inside the safe?"). On the plus side, ordered taxis via the front desk and they were always there like clockwork.

“Excellent location, friendly staff, good breakfastbuffet”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 May 2011

My husband and I stayed in the Grand Winston hotel for 2 nights. It is located in Rijswijk, which is a +/- 20 minutes bus- or trainride away from The Hague city centre, and a +/- 30 minutes trainride to Leiden Central Station (www.ns.nl).
The trainstation and busterminal are in walking distance from the hotel (5 minutes), and the hotel has a free parkinglot for the guests.
(The price of public transport beats the parkingfees you have to pay in both cities.)
Beware though : if you plan on taking the train : get as much coins as you can in advance; because in Rijswijk station you can only buy the tickets through a machine, which at the time we were there only accepted Dutch Pinpasscards or coins. Bummer if you don't have enough small change, because the people in the shops in the hall are tired of changing money for frustrated tourists and some will flat out refuse.

Many people on this reviewsite made a fuss about the glass walls of the bathroom in the hotelrooms. As a couple we didn't mind that at all, but I imagine that 2 friends sharing a room could find it bothering.
We found the dark panneling in the room a bit gloomy, and it was strange to have a panel instead of curtains in front of the window, but nothing to make a fuss about.
The bed was OK and we slept well.

The breakfast buffet had a wide variety of items on it : different cereals, yoghurt, fruit, bread in all shapes and colors, sweet buns etc. I don't understand the people who complain about that.

We didn't take dinner in the hotel, but in the Golden Dynasty restaurant across the street of the trainstation. It proclaims to be Thai, but on their all-you-can-eat buffet were several Indonesian, Japanese and Chinese items too. (even oysters !) You can order the buffet from wednesday till sunday. Upstairs from this restaurant is a Japanese restaurant, but we didn't try that out.

All in all, we had a great stay at this hotel and we can certainly recommend it.
