“Excellent friendly service, great home cooking value for money”

Stayed here before and was not satisified, but saw the new reviews so decided to give it another try. Much to my pleasure. Got a warm welcome, rooms much cleaner and warmer than my last stay, food was excellent the price was very resonable and you got plenty for your money. The new lanlord is extremely friendly and nothing was too much trouble, he even stretched to giving us a lift into Stamford and picked us back up again at a moments notice. I would recommend to anyone and will certainly be staying again.

“CHANGE OF MANAGEMENT”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 May 2010

I would give The Oak another chance. Graham and Sonja are no longer there. The new management are friendly and more experienced.
Such a pleasant and welcomed change. From the days of Graham and Sonja. Well! Sonja mainly because of the offensive attitude.
So! Give The Oak another go. I am sure you all will think the place has changed for the better (as if it could have got worse).

“More of a member of the family than a guest.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 December 2009

I arrived fairly late on the Sunday and although the bar was closed Peter & Kathy were more than happy to open up and let me have a couple of beers after what had been a fairly stressful journey. I found them to be a very friendly and helpful couple and nothing was too much trouble. The room was very clean and comfortable and the heating was on when I went to sleep and again in the morning.
They were more than happy to arrange an early breakfast for me and Pete even gave me a courteous knock in the morning as I was running a bit late and he was concerned I may have slept in. The breakfast was excellent.
That evening I was the only guest, but yet again nothing was too much trouble. Pete prepared an excellent meal for me, a lot better than some more expensive establishments I have dined in. I ate my meal with Pete & Kathy in a very informal and enjoyable atmosphere. Although Monday night is very quiet, yet again the bar was at my disposal. Pete had also contacted a long lost great aunt who lived in the village ( a result of the conversation the night before) and I had the pleasure of her company, along with the hosts.
The next morning I enjoyed yet another excellent breakfast, personal tastes catered for at no inconvenience to Pete & Kathy. The bill was no problem and easily settled. I was quite sad to leave.
Reading some previous reviews I would like to assure anyone thinking of booking that the place has obviously changed since Pete & Kathy took over. If I'm ever in the area again I won't hesitate to go back. It's damn good value for money.

“Recently Revamped and a real gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 September 2009

I originally booked with the previous owner before reading the Trip Adviser reviews, so I was a little worried, especially as travelling with clients on a work trip. Fortunately the hotel has been taken back over by the owners and the rooms really revamped.

The couple who own the hotel (Peter and Kathy) are truly wonderful hosts, charming and warm - nothing is too much trouble. As there was a temporary problem with the internet connection Peter arranged with a neighbour to let us send some emails from their home - I really can't imaging many people going to so much effort!

The rooms are very comfortable, especially the beds which have very good quality sheets (felt like Egyptian cotton) and lovely soft matresses and pillow, I think they may have all been new.

The hosts offer a very nice cooked breakfast as well as cereals, toast and tea and coffee - all great British staples. Some colleagues ate here in the evening and very particularly impressed by the home cooked British food.

The one thing that really stood out was the amazing welcome by the owners, with their great attention to detail and love of the property and area.

All in all, very highly recommended.
