“Worth a Visit”

Spent the first 4 nights here out of a total of 7 in Lombok. Have to say, if you're looking for something relaxing, bit of a hideaway and nothing much else to do, the Puri Mas is the place to stay. Perfect location for getting into Senggigi, and the right location & setting for a bit of unwinding. Food was always good, pool was great for cooling off in and the Beach is nice and quiet. I'd have to recommend a trip up to their spa for a treatment. Even more tranquil with better views up there and the treatments are spot on. Only downside I'd say is the staff sometimes look lost when Marcel the owners is not around. The owner is an absolute gent and always trying to help you out, but when he's not around the staff sometimes struggle to be as attentive. We had one bad experience on our last day when we asked them to organise a transfer to Gilli Air, we got stranded at the port as all boats were barred from leaving, but despite numerous calls to the hotel for assistance, nothing was forth coming. It was a sour end, as instead of coming back to stay the additional 3 nights we would have spent on Gilli Air, we decided to check in elsewhere purely based on that. Still, for something a little eclectic, I'd recommed the Puri Mas.

“Great value and great service”

Loved this place! Clean rooms, comfy bed, great service, great price. Even the food and drink at the hotel was reasonable.

“Beautiful, relaxing and fantastic service”

I was supposed to write this review in September 2011 but better late than never! I stayed here with my husband for 10 nights in one of the pool villas.

THE ROOM
Our villa was beautiful, admittedly it was one of the nicest and most expensive but it was well worth it. We had a huge and very comfy double bed facing double glass doors which opened onto the private pool. Slight issues with the air conditioning took a day or so to sort out but every effort was made to do it as quickly as possible.

The only slight dip in luxury was that the soap was never changed so we had the same tiny bar for 10 days and the other amenities were also a bit rubbish! This is a small thing which made no difference but it makes for a better review if I give a full account.

THE PLACE
Puri Mas cannot be described as anything other than beautiful. The gardens are full of amazing plants and flowers and are immaculately maintained. The pool is lovely particularly at sunset when you can see the silhouette of a volcano on Bali. The hotel is on the beach so that at high tide you are about 10 meters from the sea. Snorkelling here was not disappointing with wonderful fish and I saw a sea turtle. (The availability of hotel masks, snorkels and flippers for free was a really nice touch).

Nothing negative to say about the place save that I am glad that I stayed at the beach resort and not the spa resort.

THE SPA
All you need to do is book with reception and a free car will take you the 5 minute trip up the road to the Spa Resort. I would not advise walking, it is up a main road and there are a lot of mopeds, motorbikes and cars taking the corners at speed. The Spa was lovely, we had massages and I had a manicure. The grounds are once again lovely but it feels a bit cut off. Perfect if you want to be cut off from the world but not if you want to walk along the beach at night.

THE FOOD
For me, this was the only part that let Puri Mas down a little bit (it may have improved). We love our food and Puri Mas just didn't match up to Quinci just down the beach or The Square amongst others in Sengiggi. The food was not bad at all but it lacked quality.

Lunch was better than supper and breakfast was a little disappointing. There was lovely fresh fruit but the juice tasted as though it came out of a huge carton of concentrate and the pastries were very odd, a bit like fake croissants. This is not through lack of effort, there is a chef who will cook your egg in front of you whilst you wait and a variety of Indonesian and cooked breakfast bits but it did not match the rest of the experience. Had I been in an inferior hotel I would not have noticed but since everything else is 5 star this is the only bit which lags behind.

SERVICE
Now for the best bit - I have never had such attentive and brilliant service anywhere. Sara the manager, in particular, was fantastic.

My husband had a diving accident on day 3, a Doctor was organised to come out and Sara had special waterproof dressings shipped over from Bali so that he could swim. Her husband gave us some powder to dry the cut on his head and everything possible was done to ensure that we were ok.

We wanted to have a look at the Presidential Villa which is huge and right in the middle of the resort - this was no problem and we were given a tour.

Our flight didn't leave until the evening on our last day and our room was booked - we were allowed to use another room to leave our stuff in and shower before we left.

It was perfect everyone was smiling and saying hello - unlike some places we didn't have available excursions offered to us constantly and although there are often people on the beach trying to flog you bracelets and sarongs this is all part of the experience.

Despite the accident we did a lot of diving and the waters around East Lombok and the Gillis are so warm and clear with so much to see. I did my Advanced Open water PADI qualification and was taught by Bagus diving which can be organised by the pool at Puri Mas.

Right, I have said enough now, the long and short of it is that we had a wonderful stay and, whilst nowhere is perfect, Puri Mas came very close.

“Wonderfull stay, we will miss the place”

We had a brilliant stay here on our honeymoon for 5 nights. The hotel is right on the beach, easy for swiming, with a great view of Bali's volcano and great sunsets. The food in the restaurant was yum as were the breakfasts ( don't know why there are bad reviews for the breakfast there was a great selection). Food tip: The ristaffel meal is amazing and well worth doing. The staff are super friendly, we had food cooked to order several times and brought up to our room with no charge and the prices were reasonable hotel prices. The two pools were lovely. One of the most amazing spas is part of the hotel with the best massages I have ever had ( have had plenty) in an amazing location. Sara, Dale and Marcel made our stay so friendly and welcoming. The hotel is a boutique hotel so it is full of character and not the standard bland type commercial hotel like so many others. If you stay we hope you have as lovely a time as we had.
