OVERALL: More like 3.5 stars, this hotel was let down by the mould that covered our kids' room ceiling. Santosa doesn't have a compulsory Xmas and NYE dinner fee of $100 per person - this hotel worked out at almost 50% cheaper than the Sheraton when you considered the compulsory NYE dinner. (The Sheraton rooms would have been a lot nicer Im sure, but this pool is perfect for our 9 & 12 yr old. That said it wasn't full of annoying kids if you're wanting to avoid families on your trip)
ROOM:
We asked for 2 x Deluxe rooms ( in the 4 bungalows to a tower style), and our downstairs one was ok (the view was ordinary- garden fringed balcony looking towards other rooms) but the room itself was fine and quite large - 3.5 stars.
The kids room smelled of the black mould that spotted the ceiling and the bathroom had a nasty sewer smell from time to time. Annoyingly, the balcony and wardrobe lights have no switch - they're on all night and we had to call reception to have them disconnected.
POOL:
The pool was massive -the best we saw in Lombok, and the gardens and location were excellent. Pool side menu was limited, but adequate for the kids to have satays, rice, potato wedges etc for about $6 -7 a plate. More expensive than the great restaurants just out the front gate, but you pay for being too lazy to leave the lovely pool area! Plenty of sunlounges by the pool or just out on the beach - (but the hawkers will drive you insane - hence no one uses the beach much)
BREAKFAST:
Very Asian - some Western options like eggs, toast, pastries etc, but no cereals or muesli - which after a few weeks of hotel breakfasts may be all you feel like eating.
Didn't eat at the restaurant other than pool-side lunches as the hotel is next to and opposite some much better restaurants which are comparable in price or cheaper. "Square" opposite is excellent and the Taman restaurant next door was also good.
SPA: The lovely girls tried to give me a good massage and pedicure, but to be honest, it was a shocker - (about $19 compared to $15 I paid in Seminyak for a Spa massage that was amazing).
Room Tip: Request upstairs if you have a deluxe bungalow, possibly opt for a villa if you can afford it.
