My partner and I stayed here last weekend for my birthday. We had been given 2 gift vouchers for the tasting menu and also an overnight stay. We arrived around 4pm on Saturday and were greeted by a lovely friendly receptionist who showed us to our beautiful suite. We dined in the restaurant and opted for the 6 course tasting menu with the wine with each course. The food was excellent, with the exception of the langoustine and avocado dish which was bland and also the cheese dish which was trying to be too fancy and just did not work. We were disappointed to be served wine which had double fermented with our pork course. We immediately sent this back and although it was rectified quickly with the sommelier, we were not offered any form of compensation or a complimentary drink. This was disappointing. We were also surprised to occasionally be referred to as "guys" by a waitress, which is not what you would expect from a Michelin star restaurant. Having dined at Andrew Fairlie, there is a big difference between a one star and a two star Michelin restaurant with regards to the service. It was just not as polished. All in all the meal was good but not as good as we had expected it to be. Our other grievance would be the heat in the room. The suite was like an oven when we returned to it. So much so that we had to open all the windows and still woke up sweltering about 5am and unable to sleep. The heating was up far too high and we both wondered if other guests had experienced this. In the morning it was lovely to have the breakfast served in the suite and the girls who delivered it were very friendly.
