My sister and I were researching our ancestors in Templecombe (1 mile away) and were booked to stay at the Half Moon 2 nights. Then the Icelandic volcano erupted, and the 2 nights became 6! Thanks to the wonderful proprietors and their staff, and their friendly evening clientele, we enjoyed every minute of it. Their kindness will always be remembered. While other travelers were stuck in airports or treated badly, our hosts did everything they could to make us comfortable. We felt like we were at home.
The accomodation was excellent, we had everything we could want, and we were in the budget rooms, made out of a converted stable. The meals were excellent- best pub food we had on this trip, and lovely breakfasts. Everything was homemade- really good curries, some vegetarian dishes, lovely soup, delicious desserts (sticky toffee pudding!!)
We appreciated the little extra touches, like candies and chocolate in the room.
We did not have a car, and did not need one, as the Templecombe rail station is only a mile away, either on the highway or by publc pathway across a pasture- beautiful walk!
I can't wait to go back!
