I spent five days at the Hinterland Hotel with my husband. We chose that particular one because it was the only one in Selargius and we had to stay there for work reasons. I also saw some nice images on their website (which is probably the best thing about the hotel!) and saw that they also organize conferences, which is generally a good sign.
For a start, the hotel was some way short of four star standard. The room was in need of a restyling as it still had an original 1970s deco. It would have been just about ok for a three star, but definitely it did not meet a four star standard.
Breakfast was among the worst breakfast offerings I have ever had. Very poor selection of food and non-existant service. Despite breakfast being supposedly until 9.30, at around 9.10 every morning the waiter started to remove that little food available from the breakfast table. Also, cornflakes were available but there was no cold milk to go with them. I had to ask repeatedly for some and eventually it came almost half an hour later, although we were almost the only customers there.
The nice swimming pool that you see on the website does never seem to be avalable for the customers of the hotel. Almost every morning it is literally invaded by the kids of the local school (some 30 of them). I don't know whether hotel customers would be allowed during their swimming training, but it is definitely not the best place to relax, as it is terribly noisy. After the kids go, in come the locals. The pool is really never available to hotel customers only.
If you still have the misfortune to book and stay there, make sure your room does not overlook the street. On street level there is a lap dance club (owned by the same people as the hotel) that is open until late at night and therefore very noisy.
Last but not least, we parked our rented car in the hotel car park and on the very first night of our stay it got badly scratched with a key. This was probably due to the presence of the many night club customers. When we talked to the hotel management in the morning, they said they were not responsible for the car damage and that the car park was not a protected one (although it did not say so and it even had two gates thet were supposedly closed at night!). When we came back to the hotel on the same evening we caught the hotel staff putting up a very big sign saying that the car park was not supervised and that the hotel was not responsible for any damage to cars! I did not get any refund from the hotel and if it hadn't been for the nice people of the car rental company, I would have had to pay about 150 euros for the damage that was done to my cars while parked in the hotel car park!
I would not recommend this hotel to my worst enemy - do not go there!
