“Nothing too much trouble.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 January 2012

I phoned on a Sunday morning to book a table for Monday evening in the last week before Christmas. The land lady told me that she hadn't planned to open the restaurant that evening, but would do so for us. Upon our arrival on the Monday evening we were greeted warmly by the staff, other customers, and a delightful log burning stove (most welcome after a couple of hours working on a freezing cold boat). The sirloin steak I had was cooked to perfection, and the home made chips were lovely. A couple more beers sat in front of the fire topped off a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Looking forward to many more visits when the boating season starts up again.

“What a BIZARRE place”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 September 2011

My brother and I thought we give this pub a try as it looks so nice on the outside.First ,the landlady's attitude was not welcoming and there was no other staff.Piped music in the part where we sat,but her son had a huge TV on in the next room and the ice machine made a terrific clatter every few minutes.Decor very dated and what space not filled with the cheapest silk flowers was covered in artificial cobwebs,HUGE stuffed spiders and 5 million pumpkins of all shapes and sizes.I presume this was for Halloween(which is still a month away !! the starter was good, apart from the tired salad.I had battered haddock which was dry but the batter on it was excellent. The homemade chips were tasty, the peas like bullets and more tired salad. We did not stay for pudding.A lot of things were 'off' the menu as a delivery had just come. This at 12.45pm lunchtime.

“Above and Beyond!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2011

We'd been on a boat for 3 days when the wind picked up to 60 mph, so we moored in the shelter of Womack Staithe. We walked to Potter Heigham and found ourselves in the Falgate. There was a comical discussion between us all about Ratatouille, an offer from the landlady to use her bathroom facilities & hairdryer etc AND a few extremely good pints of Guinness!

The heavens opened up by the time we were due to walk back to the boat (approx one and a half miles away) there's no doubt we'd have been soaked to the skin. BUT the landlady insisted on taking us back in the car... above and beyond the call of duty!

The roads were turning to rivers, visibility was atrocious and the wind was howling! We will be eternally grateful to you and all your staff for such an entertaining afternoon and for the lift back. From now on, whenever we have Ratatouille, we'll be reminded of the Falgate - and we'll salute you!

Harry & Vanessa :-)

Room Tip: I understand that one bedroom is haunted - maybe you want to choose that one - or avoid it lol!

“Excellent steak!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2011

Staying just 20 minutes away on the river, we wandered in on a Saturday evening at 6pm hoping for a table - it was early after all, but it was fully booked. We did later book in and had a very nice meal. In fact, the Sirloin steak I had was one of the best steaks I've had - ever. It was really cooked well (rare, that is not medium or well-done, and not that it's rare to have a steak cooked well - anyway I'm rambling...) and very succulent and tasty. My partner had a vegetable curry which was also very tasty. We chose to have a bottle of red to go with it and picked, somewhat at random, one from the three bottles that were presented to us. It was a Romanian Merlot and it was very gluggable. The beer was good too. All in all, highly recommended but you'll need to book!
