“Above and Beyond!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2011

We'd been on a boat for 3 days when the wind picked up to 60 mph, so we moored in the shelter of Womack Staithe. We walked to Potter Heigham and found ourselves in the Falgate. There was a comical discussion between us all about Ratatouille, an offer from the landlady to use her bathroom facilities & hairdryer etc AND a few extremely good pints of Guinness!

The heavens opened up by the time we were due to walk back to the boat (approx one and a half miles away) there's no doubt we'd have been soaked to the skin. BUT the landlady insisted on taking us back in the car... above and beyond the call of duty!

The roads were turning to rivers, visibility was atrocious and the wind was howling! We will be eternally grateful to you and all your staff for such an entertaining afternoon and for the lift back. From now on, whenever we have Ratatouille, we'll be reminded of the Falgate - and we'll salute you!

Harry & Vanessa :-)

Room Tip: I understand that one bedroom is haunted - maybe you want to choose that one - or avoid it lol!

“Excellent steak!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2011

Staying just 20 minutes away on the river, we wandered in on a Saturday evening at 6pm hoping for a table - it was early after all, but it was fully booked. We did later book in and had a very nice meal. In fact, the Sirloin steak I had was one of the best steaks I've had - ever. It was really cooked well (rare, that is not medium or well-done, and not that it's rare to have a steak cooked well - anyway I'm rambling...) and very succulent and tasty. My partner had a vegetable curry which was also very tasty. We chose to have a bottle of red to go with it and picked, somewhat at random, one from the three bottles that were presented to us. It was a Romanian Merlot and it was very gluggable. The beer was good too. All in all, highly recommended but you'll need to book!

“Given up using this as a place to eat.”

We had been customers at the Falgate for years and enjoyed many great meals there BUT. On our wedding anniversary we went there as a party of 10. Service was slow and we are used to waiting for freshly cooked food so the wait is usually worth it. Starters came and were up to the mark but the main courses took a long while and were either, cool or over cooked. We ate what we could, paid promptly and then I mentioned the pie I had which was burnt at the bottom. The member of staff who dealt with me told me I was the first to complain about the pies and she had sold all the pies she made; therefore I was wrong. Well I won't be wrong again, we will take our business to The Bridge Inn restaurant at Acle or the Kings Head at Acle.

“We had a brilliant stay - will be coming back”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 July 2011

Stayed there for two nights recently. The landlady and staff made us very welcome. The food was fantastic - ask for the ribs especially. Nothing was too much trouble. Rooms were done in individual styles and all were very clean - we stayed in the pink one!! Would recommend for the hospitality alone!

“Friendly no-frills Inn”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 July 2008

Great family run Inn with a very warm welcome. The food was excellent with a good varied evening menu of honest british meals. Basic room but budget price and all we needed. Lovely landlady. Good local beers and ciders. Only comment would be that the bathroom had a mould problem, but then it's an old pub...........
