“10 days in heaven”

After a thorough search we ended up here based on others reviews. We couldn’t have done a better choice. From the moment we entered the hotel, throughout the stay and into a bootleg taxi (due to a strike) the crew did their best every second to make us feel like royalties. The area around is so-so but as soon as you’re inside the perimeters a design Mecca unfolds.
Beach: OK’ish – excellent for the 2 and 5 year old.
Pool: nice – look out for German early birds with towels.
Room: stayed in suite with one bed room and one combined living room/dorm/kitchenette. Good air condition, slightly noisy. Good bathroom, very good amenities and loads of towels. Superb cleaning, no turndown.
Restaurant/bar: Gorgeous food, huge portions and high quality. Beats all tavernas in Crete according to a Danish couple – they had obviously been to most of them… Make sure to get soaked at least one night in Poppy’s dad’s raki. Great fun!
Staff: the best!

We can’t wait to come back!!

Room Tip: Suites are a must for families; accomodated 5 of us, the 2-year-old in baby bed in master bed room.

This is one of the best hotel experiences my wife and i had in Greece. As a native Greek, living in London, I tend to be very critical whenever I visit my homeland. Ammos combines all elements a modern traveler is looking for: good value for money, design, great service, unique seafront location, mouthwatering food, and a team of very helpful and experienced staff. We had one of the best massages at the hotel's boutique Spa and enjoyed long sunset walks on the beach on a daily basis. Nico the hotel owner is a very friendly chap with amazing travelling tips under his sleeve. We will definetely go back to Ammos next year!

“Great food, great staff, dear cost, pity about the area”

As far as Greek hotels go, Ammos is among the best. They manage to have really nice rooms and good food that meet all modern demands without making the place stand out like a sore thumb. With white-washed stone everywhere, Ammos fits in perfectly with its surroundings. However, compared to everything else in Chania, you pay dearly for Ammos. My wife is Greek by birth and managed to secure a substantial discount. Even so, Ammos was a solid 25% more than most other beach hotels in the region. But then again, the other hotels in the area lack the attention to detail and character, so you have to think carefully about what you want. And this brings me to the area. Ammos is directly on a little stretch of beach shared by several other hotels. All of the other hotels are hideous monsters that really should never been built. They stand out as distinctly not Greek and this is a shame. It really ruined the casual beach walks that we took. Futher along the beach it only gets worse. Crappy restaurants that built right onto the beach cliffs have destroyed rock (tide) pools that would have been great fun to look for starfish and urchins in. But then again, the region has been so heavily fished and so impacted by pollution that the tiny rock pools that we did find were entirely devoid of life. So sad. Anyway, if you have a reason to come to Chania, Ammos is a good choice. You can certainly find cheaper, but finding cheaper and better would be a challenge.

“Great staff, great hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 November 2011

We stayed at the Ammos for a week in September. it's as lovely as everyone says and a great place to stay either as a couple or with children (tho probably not with restless teenagers). Due to a 12 hour delay at Gatwick we arrived at 4am. Two members of staff greeted us, carried our luggage to our lovely, clean seaview room and gave us rolls and water. We instantly felt welcome and looked after by the charming, easy going staff and that feeling continued for the whole holiday. Breakfast is delicious and the lunch/dinner menu which has interesting daily specials is fantastic. The surrounding area isn't particularly wonderful but that didn't matter because we rarely wanted to stray from this well designed, beautifully run hotel.

“great start to holiday”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 October 2011

This was the perfect start to our 2 week holiday in Western Crete. We only stayed for 2 nights and we did book this hotel on the strength of the other great reviews, and they are definitely accurate. There is not much we can add except I would recommend that you eat in the restaurant, we had lovely lunches and ate dinner on both nights in the hotel, and the waiting staff are wonderful. One day we did venture along the beach for lunch to Blue sea restaurant/cafe/bar, big mistake, expensive and not good in any way. The following day had lunch in the hotel, amazing greek salad, tszatsiki beers, bread and wonderful tomato dip for a fraction of the price of the previous day.
As others have mentioned area around the hotel not the prettiest but the views from the hotel and the beach in front of hotel are lovely. The staff very helpfull with recommendations.
