The welcome and service we received was warm and friendly. Kate and Alan were very nice and we had an interesting chat at morning breakfast.
The rooms are warm, with good ventilation with the windows open. Kate was kind enough to put the heating back on because the night had got cold. The foot of the bed was a little too close to the wardrobe making it tight to get around. The room and shower had little shelf space for knickknacks. The shower had no shelf for soaps and shampoos, so had to be placed on the floor when showering. The shower is easily controlled and powerful enough to wake you up in the morning. The bed was a little firm but not so firm, I could not sleep. I think with a longer stay this would not be an issue once you get used to it.
The lodge is out in the countryside, which is peaceful with good walks into the Forestry Commissions plantations. We did not stay long so I cannot comment further about the local area, but we did have a very nice meal at The Village Inn Pub, (review to follow). St Andrews is just down the road, we visited by car but I am unsure about the rail links.
Kate and her mother produced a very good full EngloScotts breakfast that was very welcome each morning of our stay. The only drawback that let our stay experience down was the traffic noise close to the Lodge. To be clear, the road is not busy, but when traffic came along it was loud especially from trucks.
We had trouble finding the Lodge with a TomTom satnav as the postcodes are shared by another farm. So take very good directions from the Lodge website or programme the GPS LAT LONG into your satnav if used.
Room Tip: Very good for Lauchars air shows. Try for a room away from the road, if you can.
