“family visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 October 2011

Kate and Alan welcomed us again, with the same wonderful welcome we had encountered on our other stays with them in the lodge, this time we experienced the "wee bothy" and can only compliment them again on their ability to make us feel like returning friends the wee bothy was lovely and a credit to them, Kates breakfasts are scrummy and we always feel sad when we leave them, always with the promise to return. Mum had a fabulous time and when Kate found out it was her birthday, she presented her with a lovely present, which made her day. so once again Thank you both so much see you soon

“A good alternative to soleless hotels”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 September 2011

Stayed here for 3 nights B&B. The 'complex' is 4 log cabin type rooms seperated by a communal lounge with a self contained bothy as an annex which can be used for self catering or on a B&B basis. The accomodation is in a quiet location in the Fife countryside but close to the main resort areas of St Andrews and the coastal towns. We were there to attend a family wedding and so had two cabins and the bothy annex.

The owners went out of their way to greet us and try and help with every question, and suggestions for visits and local restaurants. We had not originally booked breakfast for the bothy inhabitants but when we asked to include breakfast this was no problem. Breakfast is served in a conservatory at the main house at a communal table. Asking for eggs is recommended as the owner simply walks into the yard and gets fesh eggs from the hens which roam freely around the yard and parking area.

Would recommend this establishment to others visiting this area, as although it is not cheap, it is a bit unique.

“Visiting Fife and Bill”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 July 2011

The welcome and service we received was warm and friendly. Kate and Alan were very nice and we had an interesting chat at morning breakfast.

The rooms are warm, with good ventilation with the windows open. Kate was kind enough to put the heating back on because the night had got cold. The foot of the bed was a little too close to the wardrobe making it tight to get around. The room and shower had little shelf space for knickknacks. The shower had no shelf for soaps and shampoos, so had to be placed on the floor when showering. The shower is easily controlled and powerful enough to wake you up in the morning. The bed was a little firm but not so firm, I could not sleep. I think with a longer stay this would not be an issue once you get used to it.

The lodge is out in the countryside, which is peaceful with good walks into the Forestry Commissions plantations. We did not stay long so I cannot comment further about the local area, but we did have a very nice meal at The Village Inn Pub, (review to follow). St Andrews is just down the road, we visited by car but I am unsure about the rail links.

Kate and her mother produced a very good full EngloScotts breakfast that was very welcome each morning of our stay. The only drawback that let our stay experience down was the traffic noise close to the Lodge. To be clear, the road is not busy, but when traffic came along it was loud especially from trucks.

We had trouble finding the Lodge with a TomTom satnav as the postcodes are shared by another farm. So take very good directions from the Lodge website or programme the GPS LAT LONG into your satnav if used.

Room Tip: Very good for Lauchars air shows. Try for a room away from the road, if you can.

“Perfect spot”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 July 2011

Previous reviews pretty much say it all but I would like to add my thanks to Kate & Alan for providing us with a perfect spot to relax for a couple of days. Redlands Lodges are cosy & a much nicer alternative to the usual B&B. Here you have your own front door & privacy of self catering with the bonus of getting a lovely Scottish breakfast cooked for you. Redlands is situated a 20/30 mins walk from pub & restaurant but we enjoyed the stroll before & after. We will definately be returning. Once again many thanks.
