Stayed for one night, rooms were OK, but nothing more. Unfortunately, the service wasn´t likewise...

The hotel is situated a short walk south of Værnes airport (there's also a free shuttle bus - call the front desk on arrival to the airport to request a pickup). The main road and railway lines pass just nearby, but the hotel seems to be well insulated against noise.

The hotel is mostly geared towards conferences, doing that in an excellent way. The reception was amply staffed at all times, staff was very friendly, welcoming me with a handshake (can't remember that happening before, apart from in small B&Bs).

The hotel lobby is quite nice, with live piano music. Both rooms and the common areas look a few years old, but they do not seem "dated" - everything was seemingly well taken care of...

The hotel is supposed to have a pool, but this was closed for maintenance during my stay.

As other reviewers have noted - the food here is excellent. Everything seemed to be made onsite, no premade junk was seen.

On our final night of a camping trip in arctic Norway, we decided to stay in a "nice" place. The Rica Hell Hotel looks like just another good business hotel, but the service, food, rooms and staff are extraordinary - especially the food. It is just minutes from the Trondheim Vaernes Airport.

We stayed 1 night before our flight home and really enjoyed it.
The room was pleasant and clean, with a good bathroom and a bonus for us was free wifi.
The free swimming pool was more for fitness than leisure, especially as it was cold, but the gym looked good and the sauna was good.
The evening meal at the restaurant menu had a good choice and an extensive buffet, although not cheap (circa £26). My wife who is veggie asked what was available, the chef came out and she was provided an individual buffet plater delivered to the table.
A limited breakfast buffet (B&B) although very adequate was available from 0430 and full breakfast after 0800 at weekends. This suited us as we had an early flight.
The staff were very friendly and helpful in particular welcoming us to hell.
My only real critism was that a double bedroom only had 2 pillows and no spares as they were too thin. We could have asked I'm sure but didn't realise till in bed.
As a warning its Norwegian custom to have 2 single duvets on a double bed (1 each) and mattress toppers with the sheet only covering this. It didn't cause us a problem, just something to get used to.
Its only a 10min walk to the airport or theres a free shuttle but this didn't run early enough for us.
We would not hesitate staying again.
We visited the Fort at Hegra whilst staying in Hell, the site of the final Norwegian resistance to the Nazi invasion in WW2. It was well worth the visit and shows the the Norwegian H & S is not as strict as ours.
