We just returned from four wonderful days in South Lake Tahoe. We stayed at a property managed by Tahoe Keys Resort. The house was spotless and had all the amenities we needed such as soap, paper products, shampoo. The property was not in the Keys but off Lake Tahoe Blvd (Hwy 50) on Betty Rae Ln. It is not spectacular from the outside but is newly remodeled on the inside. The neighborhood is more modest but the neighbors were unnoticeable and the location is terriffic (5 minutes from the casinos). Beautiful views of the mountains from the balcony. We sat in the hot tub and watched a beautiful thunderstorm unfold over the tree covered mountain. Our favorite activites were: horseback riding at Camp Richardson Corral on 89 N (about 15 minute drive). We took a 2 hour ride which was perfect and we even saw a mother bear and cubs. Also we rented bikes right at Camp Richardson and rode out to Fallen Leaf Lake, (beautiful!) The gondola ride at Heavenly Village is expensive but worth it. (Park in the garage behind the movie theater). Hiking, food and zip line are at the top of the gondola. We were called off a hike on the mountain due to lightening strikes. Plenty of nearby restaurants. Tahoe Queen cruise was relaxing, beautiful and informative (Mark Twain was on board!) and Ski Run Blvd (where you catch the boat) is only 2 minutes away and you can even walk there. The folks at Tahoe Keys Resort were very accomadating and helpful. Get your discount Tahoe Queen tickets at their office (save $10) but also call to make reservations. Make sure to tell the Tahoe Queen folks that you already bought your tickets from Tahoe Keys Resort. We will definitely book our next South Shore vacation through Tahoe Keys Resort.
