“Tahoe Keys Resort and Tahoe activities”

We just returned from four wonderful days in South Lake Tahoe. We stayed at a property managed by Tahoe Keys Resort. The house was spotless and had all the amenities we needed such as soap, paper products, shampoo. The property was not in the Keys but off Lake Tahoe Blvd (Hwy 50) on Betty Rae Ln. It is not spectacular from the outside but is newly remodeled on the inside. The neighborhood is more modest but the neighbors were unnoticeable and the location is terriffic (5 minutes from the casinos). Beautiful views of the mountains from the balcony. We sat in the hot tub and watched a beautiful thunderstorm unfold over the tree covered mountain. Our favorite activites were: horseback riding at Camp Richardson Corral on 89 N (about 15 minute drive). We took a 2 hour ride which was perfect and we even saw a mother bear and cubs. Also we rented bikes right at Camp Richardson and rode out to Fallen Leaf Lake, (beautiful!) The gondola ride at Heavenly Village is expensive but worth it. (Park in the garage behind the movie theater). Hiking, food and zip line are at the top of the gondola. We were called off a hike on the mountain due to lightening strikes. Plenty of nearby restaurants. Tahoe Queen cruise was relaxing, beautiful and informative (Mark Twain was on board!) and Ski Run Blvd (where you catch the boat) is only 2 minutes away and you can even walk there. The folks at Tahoe Keys Resort were very accomadating and helpful. Get your discount Tahoe Queen tickets at their office (save $10) but also call to make reservations. Make sure to tell the Tahoe Queen folks that you already bought your tickets from Tahoe Keys Resort. We will definitely book our next South Shore vacation through Tahoe Keys Resort.

“Stay Away From Tahoe Keys Resorts!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 June 2008

Stay away from Tahoe Keys resort at all costs. My experience with them was horrible.

Their website looks good, and they are friendly when you make a reservation. But in reality they are completely unreasonable and will not hesitate to stonewall tenants or resort to "enforcing" their draconian lease. For example, they will withhold your security deposit in the event of any dispute. Now, most people know that security deposits cover damage to property or unpaid rent. Not at Tahoe Keys! They will keep your security deposit if you look at them cross-eyed. Then they'll refuse all reasonable attempts to discuss things.

And don't be fooled by the nice looking properties on the website. What they don't tell you is that there are fanatical neighbors who hate renters and who will try to ruin your vacation if they don't like the cut of your jib. Like "rap" music? Ho-ho. Not in South Lake Tahoe.

Rent from Tahoe Keys at your own peril.

In all fairness, 16 young men decided that rap music should be heard at 2am by all neighbors of the property in which they were staying. After complaints from more than 1 neighbor we asked the group to vacate the premises. We refunded both their security deposit and the night not used - more than fair considering that was their breach of contract. Noise ordinances are enforced in Lake Tahoe as the owners right to rent their property can be revoked after four complaints in a year. Draconian - hardly, not for those who provide as much respect for their Tahoe Rental neighbors as they do in their own communities. Just sour grapes from a group who is no longer welcome.

“A Family Tradition”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 March 2008

Our family has really enjoyed the friendly courteous service we have experience at Tahoe Keys Resort. We have made a tradition of staying there for a week in the summer with the kids and grandparents for almost ten years--also cool because I bring my boat which I can dock right behind the house. Also usually do a couple of weekend ski trips in the winter. I read a negative review here and suspect that it was written by one of their competitors as it does not at all reflect our experience. We highly recommend this place.

“Great Mountain Family Condo!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 November 2005

We recently visited this condo (Unit 160A)in the Tahoe Keys and had a wonderful relaxing family vacation. The owner, obviously, has provided many personal family touches to this unit. Everything was functional (heater, stove, oven, refrig, washer & dryer) which eliminated any frustration, which was just what we wanted and needed). The queen bed in the bedroom was very comfortable and felt like new (not the "used motel" feel). The decor is delightfully mountain and there are many amenities in the unit that a family can enjoy. We made great use of the entertainment center which is stocked with movies, games, and video/DVD equipment. There is even a PC computer with color printer. Rather unique for a rental condo! The kitchen is cute and small, but well stocked for fixing all our meals. We went as a couple, but with the hide-a-bed, a foursome would truly enjoy their visit. A good price for the location and comforts of home. Shopping, hiking, bike riding are within a 10 minute drive. I'm looking forward to my next visit! (The boat dock and sailing was great too!)

“Suburbia on the lake...at a great price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 August 2005

If you're staying in South Lake Tahoe in the summer (winter is different) and want a condo or house, it's hard to beat The Tahoe Keys. This is a large waterfront community with small, finger-like lagoons allowing homes to be on the water with their own boat docks. There are hundreds of condos and homes rented here, ranging from $125 per night to $2,000+ per night. Quality varies dramatically, but homes tend to have nicer views and backyards than condos. We have stayed here for six years, two or three times a year. Best selection is from tahoevacationguide.com.
They have an office in the Keys and are AAA-approved.
We call this "suburbia on the lake" because many of the homes look like they belong in a Southern California development, not at Tahoe. If you're looking for tall pines and seclusion, this is not it! Close to restaurants, shops, boat rentals and other tourism necessities, it is a very convenient place to stay in the summer. Many expensive rentals at Tahoe are quite isolated around the lake, and getting to a restaurant or grocery store can be a 15 minute drive -- not at the Keys. If you're bringing a trailer boat, this is the best possible location -- nearby launch ramp, marina, and the boat in your own back yard! About winter -- same place, but no ski atmosphere. Heavenly is about a 10-20 minute drive, depending on snow and traffic. Have fun!
