“ake gas, so you can keep driving...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 November 2011

few minutes late, they will not sell me gas, there are "call out fee" in many northern location, but hotel room + your food is worth more. and they will not let you out early in the morning, you supposed to get breakfast... and the rooms are terrible and so expensive. will only stop there for breakfast during the winter.
but there are pay showers during the summer. for that winter kitchen staff, i give them one better then nothing...

Room Tip: stop in dawson city, or keep going..

“Creepy, Old, & Rude Staff!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 September 2011

We stopped at Eagle Plains on our way home to Inuvik. The restaurant and hotel is like something out of a horror movie. It was built in 1978 and hasn't been updated since. The staff are creepy, rude, and completely ignore you until you force them to speak to you.
I couldn't wait to get back on the highway. We decided to keep driving and not bother to sleep there because of the terrible service. Plus, there is NO baby changing table in either of the washrooms, so I simply changed my baby's diaper on a couch in the lobby. And I certainly did not care if they had a problem with that! Time to at least update the washrooms by installing a change table!!

Room Tip: Keep driving.

“Great time”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 August 2011

We have stayed here three times before. Just an over night. This time we did something different. We stayed three nights and went north of the Arctic Circle for wildlife. We had fantastic and very close encounters with grizzlies.

Rooms are large. View out dining room was awesome with fireweed. Staff was friendly and helpful although very busy. Food in dining room was great. Service was next to nothing, but that is par for the course in the Yukon where getting three month help is a challenge.

This is a wonderfully unique place to stay, the only place on a 450 mile away, right dab in the middle. Considering the location, I give it a four star. Stay at least two consecutive nights so you will not rush by the wonderful sights. For any rational person, the Dempster is a two day drive to Inuvik.

“Very basic, clean, and does the trick!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 July 2011

We stopped here after decided to split driving the dempster highway into two day. The hotel would look much better if it was updated, but it was clean, and comfortable. Considering they truck the water in, and run it by generator it is a very neat spot. The restuarant was reasonbly priced and good food. Gas was available, ice and tire repair. Great spot to break up the trip ( not that you have a choice)

“How do they do it?”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 June 2011

OK - there is nowhere else to stay if you want to stop half way up the Dempster Highway, but our experience of this hotel was really positive. The room we had was plenty large enough and more fully furnished than many other hotel rooms we have been in recently (queen bed, two easy chairs, comfy armchair, couple of coffee tables, desk and TV as well as stocked ensuite bathroom). Admittedly I don't think it had been redecorated this year, but we found everything clean and comfortable, staff helpful, pleasant and, indeed, cheerful and chatty. Well done to the staff of this remotest of hotels - we really didn't feel that they traded on their monopoly in any unreasonable way at all.

The restaurant service was impressive, especially considering it's location, a good selection of food was available and helpings were very generous indeed. Knowing that this hotel is there on Eagle Plains I would have no hesitation in travelling the Dempster Highway again.
