“Wedding Night-Great Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

We stayed here on our wedding night (October 2008) and it was wonderful. They allowed me to drop off our bags on Friday morning, but we didn't stay until Saturday/Sunday night. I just knew it was something I wouldn't want to worry about, so they placed them is storage for us. They were in the room when we got there around 2am. We asked for a riverview room on the 7th floor (above the trees). It was a spectacular view. The room was large, beds very comfy, immaculately clean, and had a great stay. The pool is nice as well, good for kids. It is located downtown, but the parking was included in the price of the room (at that time anyways) Overall, I recommend it and would stay again!

Room Tip: Ask for a river view room on a higher floor to get above the trees to see the river views.

“Nicely Situated Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

Full disclosure: I'm an SPG member and frequent business traveler.I pick hotels for location, and view them only from a perspective of working and sleeping.

The Sheraton Cavalier hotel is in a good location downtown in Saskatoon. The main entrance is a little odd with the outer doors and the inner doors: the inner doors are automatic, one still has to pull the outer door (unless you press the handicap access button). No matter, once inside the lobby it is modern and spacious without being overly grand. Typical of a smaller Sheraton. Evelators are room-key access only to the guest floors.

My room was nicely appointed, with a view of the river across the street. Otherwise not a standout but certainly what I've come to expect with Sheraton rooms: nice furniture, comfortable bed, etc. The bathroom was a little narrow. The space between the tub and the sink counter was just enough for one person. As I only needed space for myself, this is not a problem. Oftentimes, though, I travel with my wife and children and the shared bathroom space is a bit snug.

The Club Lounge was being renovated, leaving space in a "regular" room for the temporary Lounge. It was small. I was in as it opened for the day and the room was cooler than I'd like. The spread was satisfactory: oatmeal, eggs, bacon, and typical continental foods.

I didn't eat in the restaurant so I cannot comment on it. Overall a decent place to stay.

Room Tip: River views are nice, even in winter.

“Worst Hotel Experience”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

We had stayed at the Sheraton in Saskatoon on January 5th & 6th.

Our first room had a “stain” on the floor which housecleaning had obviously attempted to rectify. It was a soaping mess which we regrettably stepped in. There was also a undeniable “odour” which saturated the room. It was so strong that I opened the window in an attempt to air the room out. We were gone for well over 5 hours but upon return the odour had not subsided; so we requested a room change. When the Sheraton rep came to the door he demanded to know what the issue was; after I had already had that discussion with the Front Desk/Guest Services. He proceeded to inform us that no such mess or cleaning had been mentioned by the staff to him; so he was puzzled as to the issue; but able to clearly see and smell what we had noted. Needless to say; he moved us to another room located on the 2nd floor. The smell in this room was not as overpowering but still noticeable. Would we have noticed had we not been subjected to the first room on the 5th floor; hard to say. What I can say with certainty; is that the remainder of our stay was unpleasant due to the fact that my allergies (and my partner's) have been triggered due to the awful overpowering smells of the hotel. Upon our return home I had to be treated for such and needless to say, I am less than thrilled with the establishment.

Another complaint we had is with respect to the lazy service we received from the hotel staff. We had requested an additional towel the morning of the 7th. We called with plenty of time for this to delivered, whereby we could bathe/shower and check out on time. However; an hour and a half after our first request I was forced to call back again and find out the status of an additional towel. From the time the towel finally arrived; we had only a mere 15 minutes before checking out.

Last but not least; we were less than thrilled with the room service (breakfast) we ordered on (the 6th). We both ordered the eggs benedict, with the exception I ordered a fruit salad on the side. The fruit salad consisted of a couple of slices of cantaloupe and honeydew; much to my disappointment. Secondly; we were informed that toast was to be supplied with our breakfasts and low and behold; it never did arrive.

To say the very least; this was our worst hotel experience ever.

Room Tip: We aren't sure if there is an upgraded portion to this hotel and that is why there isn't as...

Dear Chad M, I was very sorry to see your review of your recent stay with us especially after having had the opportunity to follow up in person with your traveling companion regarding the problems you experienced. I believe I acknowledged and apologized for your concerns as well as provided reasonable compensation in light of those concerns as we do stand behind our product and service when we make a mistake. I am very confident that the reason our property does receive far and away mostly positive feedback is that it truly reflects the standard of quality and service that we generally provide. I again apologize that we fell short of that high standard with your last stay but I am confident that your next stay will be a much better experience.

Sincerely,
Dale Grant

“Nice hotel with the regular Sheraton Amenities, but tired for a Sheraton”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 December 2011

Being SPG loyalists, we stay at Sheratons almost everywhere we go. This one is quite nice, with all of the amenities that you would expect of a Sheraton, but the rooms are a bit lacking in some areas... The bathtubs are ridiculously small and little details are a bit off-putting; like the floor mouldings being dirty and worn, as well as the light switch plates, etc.
I don't want to give the impression that this hotel is a 'hole' because it certainly isn't (and is probably one of the nicer hotels in Saskatoon), but a few renos (paint, straighten up the trim, maybe reno the bathrooms to be a big shower instead of a cramped bathtub) could really bring the standard up to other Sheratons.
The overall feeling I get is that it may have been a cheaper chain hotel before Sheraton took over, and they basically put a 'layer of Sheraton' over it and called it a day.
For those who love the Suite (Sweet?) Sleeper beds in Sheratons, this one does not disappoint - VERY comfortable sleep!
If you have access to the Club Lounge, the breakfast is wonderful and the service is really above and beyond!

Room Tip: If you can get one that faces the river, it is beautiful at night (particularly in the winter when y...

Dear LJshep, thank you for taking the time to post your comments after your recent stay with us. I certainly appreciate the positive comments regarding our many outstanding features. We are very proud of our 40+ years flying the Sheraton flag in Saskatoon and are thrilled to be on the brink of a $10M renovation to our incredibly busy hotel. 2012 will bring a complete refurnishment to all our guestrooms and and guest floor corridors, as well as a facelift and expansion to our club lounge, and the installation of our new fitness centre, Sheraton's Core Performance concept.

Thanks again for your feedback, and we look forward to showing off to you our great new look in the coming year.

Sincerley,
Dale Grant
