“Distinctive, good accommodation”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2011

We were very happy with our stay at the Bonsejours. It's not your standard chain hotel. Our mini-apartment was more spacious than usual and certainly comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped and was large enough for easy cooking. The bathroom was good. Wifi in the room worked well. There's an excellent supermarket just across the street. I enjoyed staying in this lively area of Quebec. While the hotel is a good 20 minutes walk from the gates of the old town, buses are available. There is also a good bus service to and from the railroad station. Reception was warm and friendly.

“Spacious hotel in the lower part of town”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 August 2010

The hotel is located in the lower part of the Old Town in an area which seems to be developing fast. The location is about a 20 minute walk up to the gates of the old town. There are plenty of restaurants around the hotel area and a large grocery store directly across the street. The hotel has limited parking but there is a pay parking lot directly behind the hotel.

The hotel seems like it was an old converted apartment building as each unit seemed to have a separate living room, bedroom, dining room and full kitchen. The hotel is great if you are traveling with a bunch of people as it’s easy to entertain in the suite and if you want to stay in to be able to cook a meal in your room.

“This hotel desperately needs updating”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 November 2009

Had an extended stay here in November 2009. Pros: unit was very spacious; free parking; good location; full kitchen. Cons: Very restrictive cancellation/revision policy; spotty internet service and no wifi; no loyalty program participation (points, etc); room had an odd odor; no pool; obviously spotty maintenance; old building shows its age; bed linens, carpeting, and furnishings were outdated and cheap; the general feel was not a welcoming or comfortable hotel.

“Good stay, ideal for bigger groups”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 May 2009

We were 15 guys on a weekend trip together and occupied 5 rooms/suites. 2 were on the 2nd floor that were bigger, one with 2 bedrooms, and those were our "main" rooms.

All rooms had at least 1 closed off room and full kitchen with all plates, utensils, etc... One of the rooms on the ground floor was just remodeled and was super nice, the others a pretty typical apartment hotel room. Good size, not at all cramped.

The location is on a busy, trendy street (loud club right accross!) and you take in more of the real quebec city feel, you are not up the hill in old quebec. Too far to walk in general, so you'd be taking a cab at least one way ($10 max.). Walking around the area where the hotel is located is fun in itself.

Cafe in the hotel is convenient, restaurants close. They let us park in the hotel parking in the back. Not enough spots for everyone. Otherwise the other reviews give a pretty good decription.

“Very spacious, great location, friendly staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 April 2009

We just got back from our family trip to Quebec City and had a great time. Our stay at the Bonsejours was excellent. We were travelling off-season so it was pretty quiet all over the city (a plus for us) and the rates were very reasonable. The front desk staff was very friendly and spoke perfect English, which was great because I took only Spanish in highschool and my young daughters have only had 2 yrs of french at this point. The amenities in the bath were quite basic, small soaps and shampoos, but adequate but all the extra were there in the kitchen. The furnishings and the bathroom were also basic but in good condition and the place was kept clean during our stay. The place was huge and had everything we needed to eat in each night, a full kitchen, dining area, etc. Fortunately, with all of the excellent dining all over, we didn't do that as often as we planned. TVs in each of the rooms was a plus with four people, although the cable reception was spotty at times.

If you want to go to bed before midnight I would suggest checking the concert schedule at the theatre across the street. There was a concert Thursday night which packed the street outside with crowds. It was very quiet for being in the middle of the city the other nights. Maybe check for room availability on the other side of the hotel as well.

We took a bus tour around the city the first day. It was very informative and gave us a good lay of the land. The Citadel was really a great place to visit if you are at all interested in the military of Canada. Lots of places within walking distance and no shortage of awesome places to eat.
