As of today, there are 79 5-star reviews of this wondrous B&B, and zero of less than five stars. There are good reasons for this amazing track record. As others have posted, Clément is truly one of a kind, someone who'd give you the shirt off his back and then go buy another shirt to offer someone else. Also one of a kind is his gîte, a beautiful, lovingly and painstakingly restored townhouse on a safe and inviting street that is convenient to so many wonderful parts of the city and that has a wonderful European feel to it. Listening to him describe his restoration and explain the building's history was fascinating and added so much to our experience, and we have also learned so much from his exceptional knowledge of the city and Québecois culture and tradition. His lovely wife Nathalie (we hope we spelled her name right...) prefers to remain behind the scenes, but her culinary creations are truly a wonder to experience, in either the elegant Victorian dining room or the sweet private sunroom. Gorgeous classical music streams through the main floor (though the TV remote is kept handy for those who need their HNIC), the bedrooms upstairs are beautifully decorated and very European (which also means small by American standards -- but we don't go to Québec for American experiences), and the épicerie downstairs is addicting ... and if that weren't enough, there's a wonderful chocolate shop right across the street. We love Québec City and have turned visiting there into an annual tradition; and as long as Clément is there to welcome us along with his other guests, that tradition will include a visit to J.A. Moisan. We can't imagine Canada without it.
