“Made the trip better!”

Arrived late and were greeted graciously by the staff - this was consistent through the visit. They made reservations for us, breakfast was tasty, the complimentary hot chocolate/cappucino/espresso/with optional decaf machine was an INCREDIBLE and very unexpected touch! We had room 52 - the room was spacious and the decor was a bit busy but it was cozy and the view was lovely. We walked everywhere, as you can from here and fell in love with Quebec City. Their sister hotel has a restaurant .. le Pain Beni - must go and enjoy the recommendations of the staff - they were spot-on. If you wanted to stay in the room most of the day, this is really quite lovely though not luxe. We were looking for an older historic feel in a hotel with modern conveniences and a place from which to launch daily walking trips (with hot chocolate to come back to periodically through the day as a bonus) and this is what you'll get here. How sweet is that?

Bonjour,

Thanks for the review!! We have so many good words from our guests regarding our complementary coffee machine in the lobby... Did you try the café latté? This is the best one!

The Pain Béni is a really good restaurant and believe me, I'm not saying that because the restaurant is part of the company! We offer at the Pain Béni an original menu, mixing French cuisine and local products. This is the best place to eat around!

By the way, we appreciated very much your rating of 5/5! This means to us that our efforts are recognized by our guests and that's what we are looking for!

Do not hesitate to choose us again for your next stay!

“Not what I was hoping for!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

While the location was great, our room was the pits! Be sure not to get room 43. We payed the extra high prices during Carnival and paid for the upgrade to Superior room. The upgrade was not worth it. The standard rooms look way nicer in the pictures than the room we got. The bed was the most uncomfortable sleep ever, we could hear all of the neighbors and there was no desk in our room despite what the comments from the manager says below. There was no hot water in our room after 10am and the water temperature fluctuated between scalding and freezing. Oh, and our upgraded superior room had a view of a stone wall. I am tired, my neck and back are killing me and I'm 500$ poorer! We are regular tourists of QC, going there sometimes 2-3 times per month for both business and pleasure. I will not return to this hotel.

Room Tip: Avoid room 43. Don't bother upgrading. The Standard rooms are better than the superior rooms!

Bonjour,

I'm really sorry to read your review. The satisfaction of our guests is very important for us but obviously we seem have failed in that mission.

Room 43 is a room usually appreciated and is not facing a wall. That room offers a nice city view. Maybe where you in another room? If you have the chance, please call me directly at the Champlain Hotel, I like to see with you where we might failed exactly. Did you talk with someone from the management during your stay?

Regarding the rates, they are not higher during the Winter Carnival. During the low season, it's always possible to get good rebates for nice rooms, but during the Carnival week-ends, there is no discount available. The rates are not higher, there is only no discount available for those peek dates.

Please do not hesitate to call me, it will be a pleasure to talk to you.

“Perfectly happy”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

Perfect distance to carnival for walking. Many restaurants around. Easy to get bus to ice hotel. Close to petit Champlain shops and citadel. Very friendly english and French speaking staff and very helpful with answering questions and suggesting restaurants. Only bad things: Needs more counter space and hooks in bathroom. Couldn't open the window in room
For some fresh air. Pull out sofa was not comfy at all. Best parts: location staff, bed. Would definitely stay again!

Bonjour,

Thank you for the good rating! You are saying in your review that we are close to everything which is totally accurate. The location of the Champlain Hotel is very hard to beat, right in the middle of the Old-Town, within the walls. Everything is walkable from here.

We took note of you suggestions for more storage space in the bathroom... Next time, just ask us and we will be able to provide you exactly what you are looking for!

Best regards,

Marc-André

My boyfriend and I decided to visit Ville de Quebec in December. What a beautiful city! Le Champlain Hotel was right in the center of Old Quebec. You could stroll down the hill to a variety of restaurants, pubs, cafes and shops. The hotel itself has a very cute library next to the lobby where you can sit and enjoy complimentary coffee, cappuccino, hot chocolate, tea, etc. all day or night. The free breakfast was delicious. There were eggs and sausages, toast, cereal, fruit, and more to warm you up to head out into the cold Quebec winter. The staff was so accommodating. They not only helped with any questions or issues we had regarding the hotel, but they also helped us with some of our french translation. The room was very comfortable with an adorable bathroom. After exploring or partying all over town, it was so nice to come back and relax in our hotel. It was truly a home away from home.

Room Tip: The Superior rooms are carpeted, so if you stay in the cold season, you might prefer to pay a little...

Bonjour,

Thanks for your good words... They are more than welcome! "Home away from home"... This is what we want to hear from every single guests staying at the Champlain Hotel!

By the way, I totally agree with your tip about the superior room. It worth the money to upgrade to a superior room which has a very beautiful view of Old-Quebec. The room itself is nicely furnished and decorated. I'm glad you liked it.

Looking forward to be your host again,

Marc-André

“Perfect place to stay!”

My husband and I travel here for our anniversary and we've been to this hotel three times. Each time, it's the same great experience as the last. The service is great, the rooms are large, warm, cozy and very modern. Our first two times, we faced the main street which wasn't too loud. I'm not a fan of seeing horse-drawn carriages (breaks my heart) but if you don't mind, you'll hear the horses heading up the street. Our third time was facing the Chateau Frontenac which was just magnificent! I hope we get the same room next time. Breakfast is nothing fancy but it'll get you going for the great day ahead. Love the free espresso in the lobby and the lobby itself is warm and inviting. Only comment is how small the parking lot is. Reserve a spot ASAP and get there on time.

EVERYTHING is within walking distance and if not, transportation is easy to find.

We love this place and are looking forward to heading back again in August!

Bonjour,

I really want to say a big "thank you" for your loyalty! This is really appreciated and we know that there is plenty of choices of hotel in Quebec City, so chosing us again for a 4th time it's really a big sign of appreciation for us!

About parking, you're totally right... I highly recommend people to book parking in advance... Especially during the high season! Everybody wants a parking spot in the area to have the opportunity to leave the car behind to walk in the cobblestone streets of Old-Quebec.

For you're 5th time, come back during the Winter Carnival! You will get completely another impression of our magnificent city!

In August, pass by the front desk to say hi, I would be more than happy to meet you in person!

Thanks again,

Marc-André
