“Good value for money”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 December 2010

we got what we paid for with this hotel. no frills but warm and comfortable accommodation. continental breakfast was included in the price and was good (although it wasn't what the europeans would say was continental style). there was plenty to eat and drink and the dining room was spotlessly clean, warm and functional.
the bedroom was basic but warm and cosy, with our own shower - also very clean and lovely fluffy clean towels were provided.
our host didn't speak very good English which i think made him reluctant to talk to us much but he was more than happy to provide plates and cutlery so we could make use of the microwave in our room
having said that, a smile and a warm welcome would have been obvious in any language! and yes he did the 10 mins clicking away on his computer with us too.
the security cameras in many places were a bit off putting but other may not find this so.
location is about 3 miles from the old city - about 1 hr walk or 20 min bus ride (no 7 bus) $2.60 each way. if you are not looking to stay in the centre, then this hotel is a good budget option

“If you are stuck...”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 October 2010

I would only go there again if I was stuck with no place to go. It's better than sleeping in your car, that's really the best thing I would say. Numerous problems with the room. The moment we got in there my 8 year old nephew said :This place sucks !!" and he was right ... looked like it had been renovated in 1993 ... Old VHS player on the shelf, old tv remote that wasn't working, Bug on the bed, creaky floor, street noise from the traffic in front so if I hadn't brought ear plugs I wouldn't have been able to sleep at all. This was late september, it was cold and no heat in the room, we had to ask for a heater to be brought in and it took hours to feel comfortable in the room. Also it's quite pricy, it was more than twice the price it was worth really, maybe 3 times. The continental breakfast was really the Spartan type with a small bowl of cereal, 2 pieces of bread, a piece of fruit and coffee ... no eggs, muffins, fancy bread .. nothing. Just white bread available too. Later I regretted not sleeping at home than night and only going to Quebec City in the morning as I could have done, I would have avoided staying there and getting a pretty big bill for such a lousy experience. (I live about 2 and a half hours away but I would have been better off leaving early that morning than staying there the night before.

VHS Player are by definition, old. Remote are not old, and if they do not work, a call to the front desk would allow us to fix the problem.

Bug on bed: what is a fly, a spider, a moskito?

Creaky floor? Floor is covered with carpet.

Street noise? This does not bother most guests; this is not a boulevard and trafic is light, most of the time.

No heat in room? In september, it is still warm, most of the time. If someone wants heat, just call the front desk.

Breakfast is all you can eat. We do not restrict anyone in anyway. All you can drink: genuine orange juice, milk hot chocolate, coffee, regular tea, green tea. All you can eat: white or brown toasts, jellies and cheese, cereals including oatmeal, bananas.

“Adequate hotel. Don't believe them when they claim they have parking.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 October 2010

The Michel Doyon is an ok hotel, nothing fancy. The price was pretty good however. Breakfast was a continental spread (choice of cereals, toast, bananas, juice, coffee, tea). If you're looking for a simple place that is reasonably close (short car or bus ride) to Old Quebec, this is ok.

One problem, however, is the parking. They advertise 2 rates - one in which you get parking if there is space, and one in which you get a spot in their parking lot. Except, you don't. We paid for a room with a spot, and when we got back to the hotel after dinner, the tiny lot was packed and no one was around to tell someone to move. We ended up parking on the street outside, which was fine - except that we had to move by 8am (so a sign said on the street). Not only that, but there was limited parking on that street and we managed to get one of the last spots. If we had gotten there 30 minutes later, I'm not sure where we were supposed to park. I wouldn't mind if they said "all parking is first-come-first-serve" - except they didn't. They sold us a room with a spot, and didn't deliver.

In conclusion, its a fine place to stay (simple, clean, good breakfast) but the parking arrangements are not fantastic.

This person is right and this needs clarification. Someone may park on the street from friday 4 pm until monday 10 am, without any restriction. Weekdays, parking on the street is restricted to one hour, from 9 am until 12 noon, and from 1:30 until 4 pm, weekdays.

We changed the text on the reservation confirmation form to indicate that parking in the lot of the hotel is on a first come first serve basis. Good suggestion. Thank you!

“First class service, good budget location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 August 2010

Very friendly helpful staff from reception to housekeeping, through breakfast to departure. Good practical location, short drive/long walk to Plains of Abraham or Old Quebec. Auberge is a small old motel, but comfortable, clean and functional with all modern amenities as promised. Recommended.

“Room was comfortable and clean, customer service left something to be desired.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 August 2010

My friend and I spent 2 nights here on the way to and from our holiday destinations. The first evening we spent there we had lovely customer service and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The second night we stayed we were unimpressed that we were expected to share one bathroom with 7 other rooms!! This was chaotic in the evening and morning - very difficult to get into the bathroom to use it. Breakfast was basic but appreciated, rooms were small but comfortable. A bit pricey for what we received.

There is no situation when a bathroom is shared between 7 rooms. The most rooms someone has to share the bathroom with is three, but most of the time, it is two or less.

Breakfast is a continental and free. All you can drink: genuine appple and/or orange juice, milk, coffee, regular tea, green tea. All you can eat: toasts (white or brown), cereals, including oatmeal, jellies and cheese, bananas.
