“Three and a half stars !”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 July 2010

It says it was a 4 stars hotel. I would give it a three and a half star. But still a very good value. The view on the lake was great. The food was OK.. I love to go to Lac Beauport for outdoor activities and you are at only 20 minutes from Old Quebec city. So all things considered, i really liked my stay at Manoir St-Castin.

“Amazing stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2008

We stayed in a condo unit with our four children between Christmas and
New Year's. What a fabulous holiday! Our accomodations were perfect for a family, with plenty of room and very comfortable and clean. The
view was spectacular. We had a full kitchen, a big plus with young children. The pool was fine. The restaurant had a great view of the lake and surrounding area. Food was outstanding, restaurant service was okay. All staff were extremely patient, helpful and friendly. Lots of activities available at the hotel, or within a few minutes (ie. pool, skating, snowshoeing, downhill and cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, dog-sledding, tubing). An easy 20 minute drive to Vieux Quebec and its attractions. The village of Lac Beauport offers many services and beautiful winter scenery. Just be prepared for lots of snow! We visit this area often, and will definately return to this hotel. A new family favourite.

“Not worth it!”

Due to a mix up with a bus tour company, we were forced to spend the 2nd night of our trip at this hotel as opposed to the original plan of 2 nights at the Chateau Frotenac. Needless to say there was no comparison. The rooms at the St. Castin were old, painted dark brown to hide the sprinkler system piping hanging from the ceiling. Very far outside the city. Bathroom was so small the toilet paper had to hang behind you!! The furniture was water stained and cheap. Room was clean, lake view was beautiful and breakfast buffet was ok. Dinner service was extremely slow and they ran out of dessert. Definitely would stay in Old Quebec vs out in the middle of nowwhere!

“Not worth it except maybe for a wedding reception”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 October 2006

Spent one night as a couple on a romantic getaway. My wife enjoyed 1 1/2 hours at the spa, which according to her was fine but service was not great. Had a renovated room overlooking the lake. Room and bed were very comfortable but a bit dark View was nice but not grand as we were on the ground floor. This is a dated hotel with some charm but inconsistent service. We do not recommend ever you should include a meal at their "dining room" in your package. This was a nightmare: 35 minutes seated before we were acknowledged other than by a "water boy", only 2 waitresses for about 120 patrons, every dish came cold, wine list minimalist and plain wines were overpriced. We were told that the 2 wedding receptions at the hotel meant that most of the staff was working there instead of the dining room. The wedding partys made the place crowded and noisy. We don't recommend and would not go back. Stay in Old Quebec instead and get to enjoy some of the best cuisine and hospitality in Canada.

  • Liked — Comfotable room in modern seection of hotel
  • Disliked — Inconsistent service, shameful dining experience, remote location
  • Tips/Secrets — Avoid at all cost

“A very nice place for the right price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 August 2006

Only $218 Canadian per day (about $185 US) got the two of us a very nice room with a beautiful view, and a wonderful large American breakfast that stuck to your ribs until dinner. Very good service was the norm, however when the dining room was busy in the evening it took awhile to get a cocktail. A very pleasant and helpful staff was always on duty. The place was spotless and the gardens were beautifully landscaped. A really good bang for your buck.

  • Liked — The view
  • Disliked — No Bartender on duty only waiters
  • Tips/Secrets — Bring your own booze and mixers to save a bundle if you like to have cocktails in the evening
