“Auberge Du Quartier has my business for life”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 March 2011

My wife and another couple stayed at the Auberge Du Quartier, in the King's Suite, and we have NOTHING negative to say. First off, the location is either walking distance or at least a very cheap cab ride away from everything. The price was very reasonable, considering we stayed during Carnavale. The best part of the stay was the staff. Every staff member was helpful, polite, courteous and always smiling. My wife and I love Quebec City and now we know where we are staying when we visit.

“A perfect Stay,in a nice charming hotel!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2010

First, I hesitated before to book there. The pictures on the website show us that rooms are pretty but there is so many hotels downtown Quebec city. As my husband and I are from Mexico and we never came to Quebec city, we wanted a perfect stay and we wanted to feel like at home. Our first choice was sold out, so we sent a mail at the Auberge du Quartier to see what were there availability and few rooms were left. We booked for a room with a queen size bed and a brick wall on the first floor. The price was ok, as the average in the others hotels around.

Finaly, we arrived at the Auberge du Quartier, about 5:00 pm and the recepcionist was so helpful. She helped us with ours luggages to get up to the room. There is no elevator as its a small and old house which is normal. As we booked by phone and during the low season, the breakfast was include and was more than a typical continental Breakast. Just before, we went to Montreal, and stayed in an hotel that cost about the same and the breakfast was include but just muffins, bananas and coffee were served.
The room was huge for two people and we had a nice view on the St-Dominique's church just in front of the Auberge. The bed was a queen one, and very confortable!
Next Street is called Cartier and there are so many restaurants, bars and coffee's place! We had a nice dinner at the Graffiti restaurant and for the price we paid, it was delicious, it was reasonable!
After, later in the evening, we went back to the hotel and the receptionist prepared us a tea and a coffee as we asked it and she stayed with us for a while, talking and taking care of us! All the staff was very friendly and always wanted that everything be perfect during all our stay!
About the parking, we did not have a car but I think 14$ is correct because we are really in the downtown area so I think its normal because there is less parking spaces as each big city in the world.

To resume, I would go back as soon as possible. Moreover, Quebec city is a very charming city and the Auberge du Quartier is located only at 15 min. walking distance from the walls that surround the oldest part!

Enjoy! Gracias por todo! Hasta luego!

“Nice decor but slightly disappointing overall”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 August 2010

The staff are very welcoming in this 'hotel' but we found that the place was too expensive for what you actually get. I know that Quebec is expensive in the summer, and we deliberately looked at places outwith the old town walls because of this.
Location wise, L'Auberge du Quartier is great, with a 15 minute walk to Quebec centre, and plenty of places to eat along l'Avenue Cartier just around the corner.
We also knew that parking and breakfast were extra, but in Quebec we soon realised that parking is hugely expensive, and we have never really been great fans of fully cooked breakfasts in the morning. In any case, this place does not claim to be a B&B in the usual sense, it really is more of a small hotel/ guest house,
What disappointed us was the size of our room and particularly the bathroom. Again, I knew when booking that the room was located in the basement, with just a small window giving limited light, but the two ( very comfortable) queen beds really did take up almost all of the room, meaning there was virtually no space for our 4 bags. The room had been nicely decorated in a cosy contemporary manner ( it's so difficult to find anything non flowery chintz and 'oldie worldie' in Quebec, it's like being stuck in a time warp in so many hotel rooms!) but some fittings seemed to be in need of repair already . The light above the bath/shower gave us particular cause for concern, situated as it was in close proximity to water.
Given the price we were paying for our 2 night stay + parking + breakfast + taxes ( it would be so much easier to quote the FULL price at the time of booking to avoid any confusion for some travellers) we also found that an additional fee for wi-fi was a little ' mesquin' as we say in French.
To finish, this is a friendly cosy place in a pleasant part of town, but the prices are just too high for me to say that I would go back there if in Quebec again.

“Damp basement rooms, hidden costs and bad breakfast”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 July 2010

We stayed in Auberge du Quartier during July 1st long weekend. We booked two queen bed in a room, the picture on the website is deceiving because the room is very small. There's barely any room for walking area.

When we first get into the room, we didn't realize it's actually in the basement. it felt humid and damp, so they have a de-humifier to get rid of the dampness. We wasn't very impress with the room, and they said only the 'suite' is upstairs, the rest are all in the basement.

Also, they didn't state that the parking was an extra $14 a day, and wifi is an extra $2 a day. We have a breakfast option for the first day. The breakfast is also extra cost of $8.50 per person per day, but it doesn't have eggs or hams or bacon. It's purely carbs like bread, croissant, and bagel. We opt out the breakfast for the 2nd day.

Also, when we booked through the website it didn't even give us the total cost after all those 'taxes'. It has lodging tax, GST and QST. So for our two nights of day, it was originally $351, but adding the one day breakfast for 4, and two nights of parking, plus all those taxes. It turns out to be $478.

I wouldn't recommend going there to stay over summer because all those hidden cost add up together it's the same as staying in one of the hotel near the downtown core.

“Lovely Spot!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2009

I stayed here one night with my husband during our honeymoon in early October, 2009. We traveled to the city by train and arrived around 6am. The building is closed and locked during the night, but the owner or manager greeted us when we arrived and allowed us to leave our bags until check-in time.

The auberge is a small-ish building not far at all from the Old city (we were walking and it took about 20 minutes). It was very inviting, with a computer and printer for guests and a nice sitting area and breakfast area.

When we checked in, they had chocolates and a card waiting for us, congratulating our marriage, which was a really nice touch. We stayed in room 110 which is downstairs in the basement. It's a dark room, but it was just what we wanted for a little romance and relaxation after our long train trip. The bed was comfortable with a down duvet and the room had exposed brick along one wall and in the bathroom. The bathroom was very clean and had a shower stall, but no tub.

Breakfast was included in our price and even though it was continental, it was very enjoyable. Toast, delicious croissants, fruit, yogurt, cereals, cheese, and coffee and juices were on the menu and we were happily satisfied. The eating area was bright and everything was laid out beautifully.

Check-out was simple, and the front-desk staff were extremely kind and helpful. I did a lot of looking around for a place to stay, and I didn't see anything this nice for this price. We had a wonderful experience and were disappointed that we hadn't planned to stay an extra night.

Also just a block away is a shopping district with lots of little shops and a really excellent shopping center with an independent grocery store, liquor store, restaurants, and drug store which we thought was great.
