PROXIMITY AND PARKING: First off, it's a beautiful building, and located on a main street in Quebec. Approximately 15-20 minutes (walking) from Chateau Frontenac. The parking was full, so we ended up parking at the church parking lot opposite from the hotel. $9 a day, and after 4:30, it's $4 per 12 hours. Might seem pricey, but considering that parking closer to the chateau is $20 for 12 hours max, we felt that the car was safe...and the walk was lovely. :) We stayed during Sept, I'm not sure if this is close enough for the Winter Carnival, although the innkeeper mentioned that closer locations tend to get more "wild", so depending on your thoughts of being in the midst of partiers at all hours...hmmm..not so much for us.
STAFF: Very friendly, efficient, and their English/French is superb. No worries there. Very happy to provide you info on getting whatever you want out of the Quebec experience. :)
BREAKFAST/OTHER AMENITIES: I felt that things were nickel and dimed. Parking is extra, as is wifi, and breakfast/coffee. Pricing is fair, but I would have liked to have paid more initially, or throw in a cup of coffee at least. Don't bother getting the wifi, as it is patchy at BEST. (although it should be noted we are used to broadband)
ROOMS: Not the largest, but they were super-comfy, cozy and clean. Bedding is great, bathroom was gorgeous, although tiny. My hubby joked that after taking a shower, he thought he should lose some weight, as he barely had room to turn. I replied that he should shrink too. lol TV is small, but who cares?! You get a few channels, and you should be out exploring.
I recommend the "cochon dingue" (crazy pig) restaurant. Reasonable rates, and convenient locations. (Renee Levesque-ouest, less than 5 min walk from the Auberge, and Rue Petit Champlains, Old Lower Quebec) There's another one in there somewhere. GREAT hearty breakfast that won't leave you hungry in an hour. And their sugar pie and other desserts are to DIE FOR. I had heard Casse-Crepe Breton was amazing in Old Quebec...um...not so much. Aslo stay away from Portofino.
Depending on what you want to eat and shop for, ask the innkeeper. They're super-helpful and will help you streamline the process.
Have a wonderful time! :)
