The room and bath were newly decorated and clean but small and consequently a bit stuffy. We had requested 2 beds-the second bed was a murphy bed which came out of a dresser and left about 6 inches of space in the room. Also, a minor point was that the TV was located on the wall in the upper corner which is very uncomfortable viewing.
During our stay the breakfast room was out of commision so the hotel had arranged for guests to breakfast at a nearby cafe. One of the reasons I stayed here was that breakfast was included. I am not a big breakfast eater but I do like coffee asap in the morning. Having to walk to a nearby cafe(albeit quaint with great food and very friendly staff) is not a good start to my day! We heard the problem was water damage caused by a drunk guest who left his shower on all night!!
The hotel is a 10 min. walk to old Quebec and that is good and bad. I imagine is it much quieter here than there and there is parking which must be a hassle downtown. I got a spot behind the Auberge so I have no complaints there.[There are 14 rooms & only 7 spots at the hotel]. We were tired with all the walking back and forth and around the city.
The best part is the Rue du Cartier right by the hotel. There are lots of great resto-bars and there is an indoor market and shops. It was very pleasant to eat there and not down in the very busy touristy part of Quebec.
On our last morning we wanted to leave early and were surprised that there was no one at the front desk until 8:30 a.m.
There was a sign advising people to inform the desk and to check out the night before but this had not been mentioned when we checked in. It held up our departure about an hour.
The staff was very friendly though.
