“Cancellation requires more than a week”

Due to difficult circumstances beyond our control, we had to cancel our visit. Despite giving several days notice, having to lose a long-planned trip to Quebec and the burden of costs just to get home, Manoir de L’Esplanade charged us for one of our two nights anyway, requiring 8 days cancellation notice. Whether or not this is a good hotel, they have little compassion.

“It was OK - not my fave.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 September 2011

We stayed here after staying at the Auberge du Vieux Port in Montreal which was a wonderful, modern hotel, so that might have jaded my opinion. The hotel itself was clean. It did not seen like anything out of the ordinary, and the bathroom is outdated. It was OK but not great. One of the staff was friendly but another was very cold. Didn't feel as warm and friendly as some other hotels. Wish we stayed at Hotel 71 as was recommended by the folks at the Auberge du Vieux Port in Montreal - oh well.

Room Tip: The bagels at breakfast were good. The location is close to the Citadel. The parking situation was...

“Well worth the money. Wish we could have stayed longer!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 August 2011

Found this charming and wonderful little gem quite by accident. Even though we arrived late, with no reservation, and hadn't decided yet whether to spend one night or two, the night clerk was friendly and helpful, giving us one of the best few rooms he had left at a slightly reduced price because he couldn't guarantee it would be free for two nights if we did decide to stay. We happily agreed to move to a new room if we stayed a second night.

The 'continental' breakfast, included with the room fee, was just wonderful. We expected muffins and watery coffee. What we got was as much food as you could want. Hot and cold cereal, toast, bagels, croissants, yogurt, fresh fruit, waffles, and more.

The owners, who dealt with us next morning, were equally friendly, helpful and so accommodating we couldn't believe it. When we decided to stay a second night (partly because we loved the hotel!), they went out of their way to ensure that we didn't have to change rooms after all, even though we had been informed ahead of time, and had agreed to move for a second night.

The hotel itself is beautifully decorated and maintained without losing the charm of a period building. The rooms are comfortable and tasteful without going overboard. Some might find them a bit small, but those folks are better off at a Holiday Inn. Rooms were small in the 1840s. It wasn't hard to close our eyes and imagine being back in that time, albeit on a much more comfortable bed. :)

You can't beat the central location. We were steps away from the most vibrant section of Vieux Québec and didn't need our car once while we stayed. The parking is a bit of an adventure to get to the first time, but again the staff came through with a detailed map and instructions on how to get there and back. It turned out to be easier than it looked at first glance and we appreciated not having to worry about parking during our stay.

All in all, a wonderful experience and definitely our first choice for hotel next time we are in Quebec City.

“A Hotel Worth the Trip Itself”

Manoir L'Esplenade is located in the heart of beautiful Old Quebec and boasts as much history and romanticism as the city itself. We stayed on the 4th (uppermost) floor in a comfortable loft suite that was beautifully restored in many ways to the way it may have originally been like in the early 1800's. The amenities though (bed, bathroom fixtures, fridge, etc) were new and very modern. The room had 2 dormer windows overlooking the rooftops and streets of Old Quebec and the amazing Hotel Frontenac. The staff were fully bilingual and incredibly accommodating and kind. The owners themselves serve up a tasty continental breakfast every morning. When we return to Quebec City we will definately stay at this hotel again!!

“A Hotel Worth the Money”

We stayed at the Hotel Manoir de l'Esplanade for six nights. Our stay from beginnig to end was excellent. The room was clean and kept clean daily. The owner/manager ( who was always there) was friendly and hospitable, as was the staff at the hotel. Daily breakfast was very good and served long enough to allow the occasional sleep in. The hotel was very well located between the old and new parts of Quebec.
