For the past 3 years, we stayed at Auberge Saint-Pierre around New Year's Eve. This year was no different and we weren't disappointed by our stay.
Auberge Saint-Pierre is located in Quebec City's Old lower town (aka Basse-Ville) on a quiet street surrounded by restaurants and art galleries. It is just across the street from the Musée de la Civilisation, a museum sponsored by the Government of Province of Quebec. The hotel is also a few hundred feet from the shore of the Saint-Laurence River. However, only some rooms will have a view on the River due to the presence of the Museum across the street. (Last time, we were in room 301 and had a partial view on the River).
The hotel is more a boutique style establishment than a full service hotel. It offers (very good) breakfast in the morning. For lunch and dinner however, you will have to find a restaurant outside the hotel which shouldn’t be a problem since the hotel is surrounded by restaurants within a 5-10 minutes walking distance. You won’t find either a pool or a business center (Wi-Fi is available however in the rooms).
Getting there might be a little tricky due to one-way circulation and a pedestrian street at the back of the hotel. However, once you know your way, it's a breeze. There is a valet service at the door. I suggest you take advantage of it due to restricted parking time and limited parking space around the hotel. There is also a parking lot near the Saint-Laurence River a few blocks away. We found more convenient to give the car keys to the valet (+/- 20$/day).
The service is professional and attentive: nothing to complain about on that front. The rooms over the years proved to be roomy and clean. The rooms we had over the years were more suites than rooms with a salon and, on two occasions, a dining area. On one occasion, we had some difficulties controlling the temperature inside the room: it had a tendency to be a little hot (we stayed only in winter time). On another occasion, the temperature in the bathroom (room 301) was too cold (+/- 60 F). We don’t know if this was a problem since the temperature outside was exceedingly cold (-15 F!).
Auberge Saint-Pierre proved to be a good base to wander around Quebec City Old Town in winter time. We found that there is plenty to do around with art galleries, restaurant, shops and museums.
Given the location and value for the price (+/- 190$ a night around New Year's Eve, breakfast included), Auberge Saint-Pierre is worth considering.
Since we stayed only during winter time, I can't comment on the rooms during summer time (hot/cold?).
I hope it is helpful.

Dear joebecquets,
We, at Le Saint-Pierre, would like to thank you for taking the time to share your review of our property.
It’s a pleasure to know that you have enjoyed this stay as well as all your previous ones; we truly appreciate your continuous support.
As our property is located in an historic building (Quebec’s first insurance office: The Quebec Fire & Insurance Company), we have kept most of the original architecture and structure as well as the original hot water heating system which provides lots of heat to our guests during the winter months without any dryness! Our modern cooling system takes over for the summer months.
As you mentioned, our Inn offers all of our guests a daily American breakfast which is included in the room rate and served in the Auberge’s exclusive dining room. For lunch and dinner, our connecting property, Hotel 71, welcomes all to its Italian Restaurant called Il Matto 71. Or else, as you stated, our Old-Port location is filled with tons of tempting options.
When thinking about coming back to Le Saint-Pierre, make sure to have a look at our website for our latest promotions and packages for the best options.
All of us are looking forward to your next visit,
Sébastien Cornellier
