“Satisfactory accommodations, good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

The Candlewood staff is friendly and service oriented. My wishes for a high floor room away from street, vending and elevator were accommodated. The room was clean, well furnished, large flat screen TV and DVD player, full kitchen. As mentioned in other reviews, I can confirm that noise (and thin walls) is a real issue. Boisterous hotel guests two suites away kept me awake, as did door banging on Saturday night when revellers returned in the wee hours. The #747 airport bus stops at the street corner, two metro stations are within 5 minutes walk. A well stocked IGA grocery store is two blocks away. Old town montreal is straight south from here, 15 minutes walk.

Room Tip: get a floor all to your self

“Not what we expected”

If you are looking for a traditional suite hotel room i.e. bedroom and separate sitting area then this is not for you unless you book a 2 room suite. Our "suite" consisted of a room with 2 beds, a recliner, a small round side table, a desk and chair, a fully equipped kitchen and a bathroom. Fortunately there was only 2 of us so we were able to eat using the side table and the desk however any more and we would have been using the beds as tables. The mesh fan screen above the stove had not been cleaned in I don't know how long and was full of grease and black dirt/dust and there was debris on the counter. When I brought this to the attention of the front desk nothing was done so I waited and took the mesh screen and the counter debris to the desk at check out . Not even an apology just "I will ask housekeeping!!!" On a positive note the location is great, there is a grocery store within walking distance and the beds were the most comfortable of all 3 hotels we stayed in during our trip.

“Budget stay ! Worth the money !”

We stayed here for 4 nights - 4 people in the same apartment with 2 bedrooms and 1 sofabed in the living room. Rooms were very spacious as well as the bathroom. Kitchen facilities were appreciated - they have regular sizes fridge, stove, microwave oven and dishwasher (with soap included). Cutlery, plates, cups - all you need to cook and appreciate meals. No breakfast is offered by the hotel. Cleaning is offered only once every 7 days so no one came to our apartment for cleaning or anything related with it. Parking is available under the building with access by the lifts. Well located in an avenue that runs straight downtown. We thought Montreal was very expensive (also the hotels) so this was a nice budget option for us ! Would recommend.

Room Tip: If you´re staying with more than 2 people in the same apartment, ask for the 2 bedroom apartment. Th...

“Economic and practical”

Some cities in Canada (probably most of them) are really expensive, and Montreal is definitely one of them.
This hotel came in handy when traveling with my family. The room had a small kitchen which helped us have quick meals, cheaper than eating out everyday. Free laundry was really helpful at the middle of my trip, just need to buy the soap, which they have in their little convenience "room", a little store with some food, drinks, medicine, soap and if I remember well, a microwave.
There is an "office" room with computers and Internet, was useful since I had an MBA paper to send out and all I had was an iPad. They do have internet connection in the rooms.
The floors need refurbishing. Rooms are sort of old but ok, could be cleaner.
Reception is renewed and staff... the staff was simply awesome with us all the time. Any question, they would stop what they were doing and help us - call a cab, point out places in the map, recommending restaurants, etc.
By the way, the hotel is really close to a little market and a bar (in another hotel), and about 3 blocks from some very good restaurants. Not far from Chinatown and you can walk (if day is nice and you don't mind walking a little) to the Old Downtown. They do have a garage if you need (charged extra).
If I went to Montreal again I would compare prices to be sure, but would probably stay at Candlewood again. I definitely recommend the hotel.

Room Tip: Try to get one not too far from the elevators. The building is big, so some rooms (like mine) were q...

Dear customer,

I am really sorry to hear about your experience. Being a long term stay hotel has its inconveniences. People cooking affect all the customers in terms of smells. I deeply apologize this has made your stay uncomfortable. As far as lighting, we are now rectifying the situation in most of our suites. I really appreciated your comments, it improves our customer service.

Kind regards,

Simon Gadbois
