I stayed here in 2007. There were big mean-looking guys sitting on the steps with tattooed faces lol. We payed 50$ total for 2 nights in a 4-bed room for 2 people.
There is no actual bathROOM. You walk into the room and find a toilet stall with closed door and a shower with a ripped curtain on your left had side. on the right, a double sink with a huge mirror. 4 feet further is the room (i think it's an old classroom, you know with the light blue painted cinderblock). There were 4 single beds but 3 school lockers (so if there were 4 travellers, you'd have a problem) to lock your belongings with your own lock.
There were no blankets on one bed, so went to go to the reception. THERE ARE NO STAIRS. You HAVE to use the elevator, which, to me is a safety risk in case of emergency. By the elevator, a sign says: please fold your blanket and place it on bed upon leaving. The man at the reception gave me two new ones. I can't believe we didn't get bedbugs that night.
It was dirty, unsafe and overall crappy. I'm sure there are better hostels in Montreal. There was no common room for travellers to hang out, no resources.
The only positive thing was the location, in Plateau.
