“B&B sympa et confortable in the middle of Montréal”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 November 2011

My female friend and I stayed in the ensuite studio room (spacious and cosy) for three nights. Two separate beds. Very good price (CDN$ 100 per night).
Good bathroom and we loved the idea of having our own place for breakfast. Good choice of cereals and bagels.
Richard, the owner, is kind of sarcastic, but was very helpful and gave us lots of info about the city and the places to see, as well as the restaurants. He said he was in a hurry when we arrived and then he kept on talking for ages!! he's a very funny guy, indeed!
Location is great, as it is close to all the cafes and restaurants and great atmosphere of the Gay Village. Near to Latin quarter, and the tube station (Papineau) is two minutes away.
Would definitely stay there again.

“A welcome oasis”

The previous reviews say it all... it is fantastic value.
Great location, close to metro and nearby cafes, restaurants, supermarket, shops and nightlife of the Village area of Montreal. During the 6 days we spent there we felt safe walking around the area, day or night. The rooms are tastefully decorated; bedlinen and bath towels are of a good quality with rooms being kept spotlessly clean.
Cozy attractive back garden available to use by all those staying at Le Cartier. Plants, candles, water features and outdoor furniture add to the very restful ambiance.
It was so handy having a shared kitchen available with access to coffee maker, electric jug, full size fridge, microwave, toaster oven, crockery and cutlery.Great selection of teas for those not into coffee! If you don't like the offerings for breakfast, there are masses of cafes available. There's a mini size fridge in your own room too.
Richard was a generous host, sharing his knowledge and time with us. We enjoyed his sense of humour and view of life in Montreal. Overall a great introduction to Montreal.

Room Tip: If you have heavy or bulky luggage, ask for a room on ground level to avoid the spiral outdoor stair...

“Perfect choice for us!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 August 2011

Le Cartier was the perfect choice for my daughter and myself on our shopping trip to Montreal. We stayed for one week and loved it. Only minutes away to the metro so we were able to get around to everywhere we wanted. Richard was very helpful and gave us lots of guidance as to where to find everything we needed. Scott and JC were great, they too were both very friendly and willing to give us directions and advice. Our suite was very clean &cozy and had everything we needed, even nice thick fresh towels each day. Breakfast was fine for us as we didn't want a huge hot breakfast anyways. We just helped ourselves to cereal, bagel or fruit each day & didn't have to be up at a set time for breakfast to be served. Andre was right on time to take us to the airport, thanks for arranging it, Richard. We can't wait to go back.

Room Tip: Book early

“Good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 August 2011

Overall we had a good time here, the accommodation and room was really nice and comfortable. Good value, and good 'do it yourself' breakfast facilities. However, Richard (the owner) despite being knowledgable, was at times a little rude - or at least in our opinion. We also didn't have a great time in Montreal compared to other eastern canadian cities that we travelled to on this trip. But as I say, overall value and accommodation was good.

“Couldn't have chosen better”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 July 2011

I stayed at le Cartier for 5 nights and had a great stay.

I choose the ensuite studio room, which was spacious and comfy. It was lovely decor with large bed, open plan sitting room area and a little breakfast area.

Shower was hot and powerful, Internet free and reliable. Lovely attention to details from the decor, the soft towels, the little bowl of chocolates in the hallway..

Check in was easy and the owner welcoming and friendly with a wealth of knowledge on Montreal.

The room backed onto a little kitchen area with self service breakfast, croissant, fruit, cereal.
After this was another strip room backing onto the court yard patio, meaning you could rent both rooms for 2 couples or a family, and it is like renting a private apartment rather than a b&b.

Experience was very quiet and private, if you like your b&b to be lots of friendly travelers swapping stories over a home cooked brekkie then this is not for you, this place is like having your own flat.

Location was great. It was very close to all the cafes and restaurants and great atmosphere of the (gay) village, so close to Latin quarter, very close to tube stop. 20 min walk to old town.

Le Cartier was just off a quiet side street so no noise issues, though as a single women traveller I did find walking down this street alone at night a bit uncomfortable, as there were very few people , if any, around and it's not well lit.

Would def stay here again should I return, it was at least half the price of a standard hotel ( see my Westin grand Vancouver review) and in my opinion much better than a hotel.
