I don't know how so many people had "wonderful" experiences at this hotel. I stayed here in the summer of 2011 for a concert I was attending, and it was a terrible experience. The hotel isn't close to anything, and I felt a little nervous coming home at night in that neighborhood as it was only my friend and I. It is the definition of sketchy.

The manager, I'm assuming, who checked us in, was very friendly. He did his best to help us find our way around but kind of misled us on the closest metro station (which is EXTREMELY far, by the way). I suggest you bring your own form of transportation!

Anyways, the cleanliness of the hotel was awful. I could have sworn I left with bites. There were definitely cockroaches in my room and out of the two separate bathrooms on our floor, one of them smelled like pee and the other smelt of hamster. I chose hamster. I NEVER took a shower while I was there because the door didn't lock and surprise, it smelt like feet. The beds were subpar and the window was whistling the entire night. There were stains on my sheets, and I was afraid to lie my face on the pillow.

I also took the stairs every time because the elevator freaked me out. And what's with the no drinking in the hotel? It's Montreal!

To everyone seeing all these reviews saying "the staff are so friendly!" "Nicest people Ive ever met!" .. it does not make up for the creepiness, dirtiness, and the infestations that you will find during your stay.

I could go on... but I will cut it short and say :

Montreal is a wonderful, beautiful city that never sleeps, but next time I go there I will splurge on a good hotel.

Room Tip: If you must stay here, get a room with a private bathroom.

Ckeck-In took 20 minutes, room had only a small electrical heating device, shared bathroom and shared toilet, window wasn't properly closed so there was a lot of noise, sign in the elevator says drinking alcohol in the hotel is forbidden(?), wireless connection was only ok in the reception area, staff is helpful in general but kind of weird people work there.

“Excellent!”

The lady at the reception was very friendly, welcoming and caring! As soon as we walked in, she made us feel welcome and right at home! She's definitely one of the nicest people I've ever met! She showed us places to visit on a city map she gave us, and marked where we could get good food, and a market, just in case we needed something. She gave us tips on how to get around the city. The rest of the staff was also friendly and courteous. The place has a welcoming, cozy environment that made you feel at home instantly. We got a room with two double beds and a private bathroom. The rooms were a good size, but the bathroom was a tight fit. The room was very clean. The place has free internet, which is great. It was winter and our room was freezing, but that was easily fixed by turning on the heater. It was fairly close to downtown Montreal, about a 10 minute drive and was located next to a bus stop. The breakfast was good, but consisted mostly of only grain products. Overall, it's an incredible place and a great family hotel.

“Gorgeous hotel!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

Shahzard, the owner/manager of this hotel is one of the nicest, most beautiful people I have ever met! The second me and my nine friends walked into the building we were greeted with a smile and felt right at home. After officially checking us in she pulled out a map and gave us tips on the city. Perhaps some people visiting may not need the tips, but this was our first time visiting so it was very much needed. Not only that, but over the next few days when we stayed here, either her or anybody else working the 'front desk' at the time was always willing to help. Everyone here is friendly and it truly does make you feel like you are accepted.

The hotel is safe and in a good location. It is in sort of, I guess, a suburban part of the city. On the road leading towards it, there are a lot of apartments and a park. Location-wise, it is about 10 minute walk from two different Metro stations. However, there is a bus stop right in front of the building, which is very convenient. It is a quiet hotel and you are expected to be quiet at night time. My friends and I came here for New Years, but we are well behaved so this was not a problem at all. If you want a hotel where you can yell and scream all hours of the night, this is not the hotel. This hotel is very, very family-friendly. In fact, I'd say it's the perfect family hotel. But with a group of 9 guys (we had two rooms), it was perfect as well.

It was in a great spot because, as I said, it was right near the metro stations. We are able to hop right on the bus or train and head anywhere in the city. In Montreal, the train/bus station moves quickly so you can get to where you want to get quite quickly anyway.

I personally enjoyed the continental breakfast – juice, coffee, bagels, croissants, cereal, muffins and fruit. There is a microwave and toaster oven downstairs incase you ever wanted to heat up any of your own food.

I am not really sure what else to say, but this hotel was fantastic. It all started from the minute my friends and I walked in the door and it only got better. I really do want to thank Shahzard and the staff for the hospitality.

Room Tip: We had superior suites, on the second floor. The moonlight shining through the windows does not keep...

“Great experience, great value!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

The hotel is a few minutes from the heart of downtown. It has quite a tremendous look from the outside (even though it doesn't look large, it is quite nice looking) and is very clean and quaint on the inside. The staff was absolutely incredible; very polite, outgoing and welcoming! Upon check-in, the host gave us a map and explained pretty much all of the cool things we could see and directions how to get there. They have breakfast in the morning, which mainly consists of bread products, but is a good starter nonetheless because of harsh winter Montreal has to offer.
If this is your first time in Montreal, I'd probably suggest staying in the heart of downtown as if you pay a few more dollars per night, you'll be really close to the nightlife. However, if it isn't your first stay and you're eager to have the comfort of your own home at a very cheap price, I'd strongly recommend Auberge Manoir Ville Marie to you or any of my family!

- - It is very easy to navigate through the city from here as it is JUST outside of the heart of downtown which makes it pretty easy to get anywhere on either side of the city. I didn't get a chance to check out the patio on the 3rd floor because we were leaving (and it was super cold winter) but I do intend to check it out the next time I'm there.

Room Tip: If you have kids, ask for one of the rooms that includes a washroom.
