I found D&Ds on Tripadvisor. Relying on my trusty fellow Advisors, I was not disappointed! We paid CAN$170 (with tax) for each of two weekend nights -- and I would say this is one of the best hotel/inn values around anywhere.
This three room B & B is located in a safe lower-middle class section of Montreal. It is certainly not located in a posh section of town, but what the neighborhood lacks in class, it gains in convenience. The Metro is two easy blocks away from the B & B -- and everything worth seeing on a short visit to Montreal is within a few stops on the same Metro line. It was quite remarkable just how easy it was to see the city using D&Ds as a home base. Also, the awesome Atwater food market is nearby -- as is the Canal.
We stayed in the Napoelan Room. Located on the main floor, it was a bit overcrowded with furniture, but still very tastefully decorated. What struck my wife and I first was the SPOTLESS cleanliness. We are picky travelers (I had clorox wipes in the trunk of my car ready to use in an emergency!). This room was among the cleanest I have ever witnessed. The shower, sink and commode were gleaming white. The sheets and bedspead smelled and looked completely sanitized. And, the entire Inn was in tip-top condition. The only negative (and it's not even really worth mentioning) was a broken sliding screen door to the lovely deck.
The king bed was comfortably firm - and the overload of pillows was luxurious and homey. The amenities were excellent -- from the linen sprays, to the green tea shampoo and body wash (although, sadly, the goat's milk products are no more!) -- to the fluffy large white towels and bathrobes. Even the toilet paper was soft (a true blessing for some of us with tender bums!).
We enjoyed two delicious breakfasts: Blueberry pancakes and sausage with real Canadian maple syrup one morning -- and english muffin with poached eggs, lox and asparagus the next. Both meals started with fresh fruit - and there was an abundance of coffee, fresh OJ and the like.
What makes this Inn even more of a step beyond are the two owners: Dorothy and David. We spent a wonderful evening with them on their deck chatting away as though we were all old friends. They were the most gracious hosts - offering us their personal wine to drink and then sharing an ordered-in dinner when it was too late to run out to eat. Talk about above and beyond! (Note: Travelers should not expect these type of offerings - and we were sure to pay for dinner, and offered to pay for the wine too. I suspect some B&B travelers may think this type of thing is included -- but, note well, it is not!)
Add to this a wonderful guest kitchen, stocked with homemade cookies, cocoa, teas, juice and water. There also have more tourist pamphlets, maps and books than any visitor could need (not to mention David's fabulous knowledge of the city).
We had the opportunity to view the suite upstairs - and the bathroom with the infamous skylight. Both are lovely.
Finally, be sure to stop by Dorothy's newly opened boutique (it's not the garage sale shop on the corner -- but, the beautiful boutique next door). She opened it up special for the Inn guests on the Monday we left. We were truly glad that she did.
Thank you David and Dorothy for this wonderful place. You're giving many travelers a truly special gift!
