“Conveniently Located”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 August 2010

A great little hotel located just a few km outside of the city. The hotel is right next to a major bus/metro terminal so getting around is very easy (Express Bus that runs every ~30min to the International Airport). Our room was on the lower level so it was nice and quiet. The rooms are small but clean. You really shouldn't be in the room for much except to sleep, Montreal is a wonderful city with so much to see. The staff was all very nice and accommodating and where fluent in both French and English (as are most people in the city).

There is a convenient store right across the street which is good to pick up a snack. Hotel Europeenne is only a couple blocks from the university so there is always a good chance to see street performances. The Latin Quarter is also nearby which is 3 blocks south of the hotel and has tons of places to eat. A lot of parks close if you just want to hang out or have a picnic.

In many cities in the US I know you think of bus terminals and the surrounding areas to be a bit sketchy but we felt completely safe anywhere we went.

“I wished I read the review and listened to my friend”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 August 2010

It is very hard trying to provide an objective review after a bad experience, but I'll try my best. Firstly, this place is very convenient. It is located within minutes to the Greyhound terminal and the Metro (subway station). Secondly, it's right in downtown.

Now to the criticisms... After checking in, I went to my room and upon entering the room smelt like someone had been smoking in there. When I lifted up the blanket to check the bed sheet, I saw two strands of hair. At that point I wondered if they changed the bed sheets. I went upstairs to ask the receptionist whether it was a non-smoking room. I was told that it's a non-smoking hotel. It definitely smelt like cigarette smoke and they were using some kind of air freshener to mask the stink. The shower door is mouldy. In the morning, I smelt someone burning Indian incense and the whole hallway smelt like incense. At least incense doesn't stink like cigarette but I suspect non-smoking indoors applies to incense as well! The person cleaning the room could do better with better personal hygiene. After he left the room, the b.o. lingered for a while. The ac wasn't turned on at night and the room was getting really stuffy. I could feel the springs in the bed. Needless to say, I couldn't get a good night sleep. After reading about the cheap skate breakfast, I decided to skip breakfast and checked out first thing in the morning.

You will be charged an extra day as penalty but make sure you ask that they refund you for the rest of the nights not stayed.

I did not experience the loud announcement from the Greyhound as some people mentioned here. However I did hear someone moving the furniture upstairs as described by a few people here. Oh, by the first hour of staying in the room, my throat started to itch - perhaps from the smoke. That itch worsened over the days. Three days later I developed a full blown sore throat - perhaps from the throat irritation.

I have always tried to avoid large hotel chains because I strongly believe in supporting the "small guys" by staying at boutique hotels. This is certainly a major, major mistake. Based on my overall experience, I wouldn't even stay there even if you pay me to do so!

“Good Place To Sleep For Early Bus Departure, But Bring A Safety Pin”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 May 2010

I needed a room near the central Greyhound station as I had an early morning bus departure. This hotel is ok if you are only looking for a clean, quiet place to sleep and not expecting a lot of frills. There are no individual temperature controls in the rooms, so the temperature selected by the hotel is what you will get. I found the room to be a bit on the cool side, but it was not unbearable. The hotel is clean and has a few nice decorative touches in the rooms. I discovered that the blackout curtains would not close completely, but fortunately I had a safety pin with me to keep the curtains overlapped where they meet in the center. Would only stay here again if I needed to catch an early bus the next morning.

“10 PM curfew is strictly enforced”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 April 2010

I stayed at this hotel for one night Based on price alone. I cannot recommend it.
The "free" breakfast is doled out by front-desk staff. 1 coffee or tea. 1 muffin and 1 juice. It is only available from 8 until 10 am.
When my friend arrived at 10:45 they would not let him visit me in my room. a 10 pm no visitors curfew is strictly enforced by desk crew.
I had no phone privileges despite the fact they had my credit card number, I would not have used it anyway since calls are charged by the minute. Incoming and outgoing.

“I like to make my own opinion about hotels”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 August 2009

This is a great place for a short stay. The staff is more than accomodating. I requested no room service, so they gave me extra towels and such without complication. The breakfast is bleak; but it is free, so beats nothing.

I read about the bus station noise at 5am. I have difficulty sleeping, and I slept well each night. I was in room 338 facing the bus terminal, and noticed a noise when I opened the window, but very quiet other than that.

This place is really close to the metro, and I found affordable parking with nice attendants. I was greeted only by the day employees when leaving, so can't give an accurate opinion, but the night crew is great!!!!!! They went out of their way for me.

My only complaint is that they won't accept tips for the valubale services they offer. I am in no way employed by the hotel as I live In NY. There are local stores open for late night needs in case one did not pack essential items.

This hotel is a great place to stay!!!!!!!!!!!
