Wonderful experience. Room was spacious with vintage exposed brick walls, contemporary bathroom, excellent toiletries. Staff polished and warm. I do not speak French but never encountered any problem or "attitude" . Dinner in the dining room fantastic with an excellent wine menu. Would highly recommend this boutique hotel .

“noisy heating system”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

The lobby/bar area is very nice, I did enjoy my glass of wine. But the main issue was that the heating system is very noisy. It sounds like they have a thermopump or something like that. It's very annoying, and tiring, to hear that all the time in your room.
Also, even though I had a brick wall in my room, I could hear very well what was going on in the next room. Not very pleasant.
The decoration was very nice and I understand that my room was a 'petite suite' so they probably really wanted to make it look like it has a living room area BUT I think there were too many pieces of furniture, it was just quite crowded.
One more thing, and I never thought I would ever comment on that in all my life as I have never encountered that ever, at the hotel or in anyone's home, the toilet seat was extremely uncomfortable!!! It sounds silly, I agree, but I've just never sat on that kind of seat before! So beware of room 402. I think the actual toilet may be crooked which could explain the weird angle of the seat... I don't know... but very unpleasant.
There is a nice stereo system in the room and it was on when I arrived, that's a nice touch. Staff was friendly but had trouble explaining the bill the following morning.
I ordered breakfast. Very ordinary. Very expensive. And awful coffee.
I don't normally complain much but for a room in a hotel that has high standards, it was disappointing. I can be very happy at a Holiday Inn because I know what to expect. In this case, I definitely expected more.
Great chocolate on the pillow.
Honest staff (I had left my wallet and my camera on the table, didn't get stolen).
Of course, very nice location.
But I won't go back. I think the St-Sulpice on the corner is much better.

“Great location and great service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

We booked this hotel last minute, arriving new years eve so that might be why we got a smaller room towards the back of the hotel. Still is was comfortable, clean and in general it felt pretty authentic as hotels go. The good thing about the hotel is that you can walk straight onto the cobbled streets of old montréal. The staff on reception are very friendly and offer good recommendations should you need a suggestion on where to eat nearby or what to do!!
We didn't eat in the hotel restaurant as it was new years eve and booked out but we had drinks by the bar and it was quite nice for a hotel bar. The lobby had a good vibe with not the clinical feel that can sometimes come from a hotel bar.
There was some difficulty in that we were wrongly charged for drinks to our room after checking out but the hotel sorted it out promptly. Would recommend.

“very nice room”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

Very good place to stay, close to everything in the old montreal.

Next time i go i will try the restaurant.

The bed are comfortable, the price is a little bit expansive, but the location is just perfect.

The breakfast was not quite good, but the services was fine.

I would recommend this hotel if you go to old montreal with your girlfriend of a week-end, this is just perfect.

Thanks

“Wonderful hideaway in Montreal”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

Boutique hotel that has ambiance that felt cozy. Staff was awesome, except for bar tender. Seemed annoyed we used free drink coupons. Concierge went the extra mile in helping us with reservations. Location is wonderful. Excellent room and accommodations. Noisy after bar folks on Saturday could be heard from the streets, but not a big problem. Could not pick a better spot to get to great food and great things to do. People all over were wonderful at switching to English after we butchered French to them. No attitude at all. Definitely stay at Hotel Nelligan!

Room Tip: Rooms facing St. Paul can be noisy.
