“You get what you pay for.. or sometimes a little less!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2012

Stayed here September 2011, was in Montreal with a friend for 3 days of shopping and partying. This hotel was an average priced hotel, I knew what to expect as I read reviews before booking.. It is out dated and a bit dirty looking. Would have been happier if I paid a bit less though.

The kitchenette was nice, with a separate room for the bed, but the couch looked like it was from the 90's and had lots of random stains. There was only 2 of each utensil in the cupboard, and no dish soap - so if you plan on using the dishes, bring soap.

The breakfast buffet was small and not too much there unless you like cereal, toast, yogurt and fruit - which was fine for us.

The location is good - depending on where you are going. It is a close walk to Old Montreal and right next to China Town. To get to the shopping though, is about 15-20 minute walk, and same with most of the bars. Plus, the airport bus stops almost right in front of the hotel.

I would say if you don't care much about what the hotel looks like and just want somewhere cheap and fairly close to everything, this is a decent choice.

“Good worth for money”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

I had gone for a conference in the Convention Center. The hotel is within walking distance and was the cheapest among all hotels with adequate facilities in the vicinity. The most important thing is its policy of complimentary hot breakfast buffet which was really very extensive. The hotel is also located on the 747 bus route to the airport and hence one really does not need a cab to travel to/from the airport if the baggage is manageable.

“Value for money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

My hotel reviews are based upon value for money i.e. whether we received value for what we paid. Otherwise it is impossible and unfair to compare a Motel 6 with a Holiday Inn with an Intercontinental with a Banyan Tree Resort. For the same hotel, 2 people may have paid different amounts and therefore may have different value judgments.

I paid $60 per nite for this Holiday Inn, and at this price this is very good value, specially since I got upgraded to a huge one bedroom suite and with fast wifi and a view od snow falling alla round me. It was very good value in spite of the fact that the room and the hotel itself appears very dated and is in desperate need of overhaul. Threre was a decades old boxy TV in both the rooms, the bathroom and kitchen fixtures made all sorts of noises when used, the carper seemed old and worn. And of course the typical Holiday Inn breakfast is inedible consisting of factory produced, industrial quality processed items that are both unhealthy and inedible and a major cause of cancer, diabetes and other life style diseases in North America. Only the coffee was excellent, but one cannot have coffee by itself on an empty stomach.

Parking is very steep at $20 per day, but a big boon on this snowy day. Location is great and ona good day it is walking distance to many places, and is a 5 minute walk to the underground city.

“Way below average”

I have booked a room through Hotwire over the past weekend.  I was happy to get a room for $80 including tax at a Holiday Inn Express since I had stayed at Dorval, HIE a few week prior and was really impressed with the place.  When we arrived, we were greeted by a less than friendly staff that told us that, because we had reserved through Hotwire and because the hotel was fully booked for that night, we would get a smoking room.  I was not too happy about it but I guess we had no choice since we had already paid for the room and could not get a refund.  When we got into the room, I could not believe how "filthy" it was.  There were spots on the wall (which I cleaned myself), spots on the unidentifiable color carpet that looked like gum spots.  One of the curtain was torn and there were spots on the sofa chair.  The floor and the chair seemed to have not been washed in ages.  The bed was badly made up…  And, finally, I am not talking about the smell in the room.  There was no way we would stay in that room for any price.  We decided just to leave, not spend the night there and get a room somewhere else.
