“Great if you just need a place to stay.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2011

Come into the hotel knowing that you get what you pay for, and it's not so bad; especially if you're not planning to spend the day in your room.

One bad point is that the hotel itself is in kind of a sketchy area that extends for two or three blocks around the place. Depending on where your room is, you may have homeless people living right outside your window. Several days in a row I saw cars with smashed out windows parked outside the place (There's no free parking here, and you'll have to be lucky to get a place on the street anywhere close).

On the upside, there didn't seem to be any real danger. You're pretty close to both Rue Sherbrooke and St. Catherine's Street here, and there's plenty of people. The hotel is near the Places-Des-Arts métro station, and there's plenty of nightlife in the area.

As for the rooms themselves, it's bare-bones. They basically give you beds, a TV, some towels, and that's it. But if you're not expecting a whole lot, one can make do.

“Worst hotel experience in my life”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2011

I have stayed in hotels all over the USA and Europe and this is, by far, the worst hotel experience in my life. As others noted, the place stinks; it might be urine, booze, milk, or something I'd rather not think about dropped by former clients. The entire place is shabby and unattractive. Breakfast was OJ, coffee, and some cheap bread. I stayed for two nights and the maid never bothered to clean my room. The bathroom was the dirtiest I've ever seen.

The hotel seems to cater to large, rude groups. I was just trying to get to sleep on my second night when the riot started. A bus disgorged a large group of late-teens / early-20s. They spent the entire night partying -- some with their room doors propped open to allow everyone else to hear their noise, with other doors being constantly opened and slammed shut -- and running up and down the stairs going somewhere else. I complained to the manager, but he could not give a rip. It was obvious that the large group's revenue was more important to him than worrying about whether his hotel's ambiance was worse than that of a college dorm during a floor party. The manager would not intervene with his rude guests, not would he adjust my room bill to account for the fact that I got no sleep that night. I checked-out and left the hotel at around 6 AM just to escape.

The location was marginal, with drunks and other losers drifting merrily nearby. Comparing it to cities like Chicago, it was tame, but compared to Ottawa it was a dump. The only saving grace is that it is close to a metro station. Don't stay here, even if it is free.

“No frills, cheap hotel in downtown Montreal - repeat customers”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 December 2010

This hotel is not fancy , cheap and close to the metro which is a huge perk.

We got a good deal on expedia for 10 nights so did not mind the crappy rooms. They are pretty crappy. But, we were out all day long, and were willing to be central for a good price.

The Italian manager is quite a personality, and nice enough to the guests. He tells you the way it is: the truth. So I liked getting his advice.

“Not worth the money!Don't stay here.”

Not worth the money, inclusive breakfast. Breakfast only bread, juice and coffee. Carpet with stain. Bed looks dirty. Towels filthy, looks dirty with hair. Hard to find parking, not safe. We even saw one van with broken glass and flat tire. Scary parking. One thing I like...free access to internet. What i really don't like is that I feel unsafe here.

“What a dive !! Horrible”

The hotel is poorly kept & old. The hotel room smelt of urine (in the carpet?). The staff were not courteous. The car needed to be parked 2 blocks off site and paid extra. I felt unsafe in this area of the city.
