The Good:
- Location is excellent. Less than 10 minute walk to the Bell Centre and Ste-Catherine Street, you will be able to find many restaurant choices and shopping locations.
- In between two subway station (Orange Line and Green Line), you will not need a car to get around. Parking is available for a fee at the hotel.
- Our room was very clean, great bedsheets, comfortable pillows and renovated bathrooms. No complaints.
- Price is on the low-side, compared to other downtown hotels.
- Rooms have been renovated. Hardwood floors, comfortable beds, flat screen TV with full cable.
- Business Centre on Second floors offers free printing. (but the computers are very slow).
- There is a computer in your room with free internet. Great for finding information.
- Our room also had a little fridge – great to keep cold drinks in it.
- Free wi-fi throughout the building.
- Heater was easy to set ourselves and worked well (very important as it was -35 Celsius that weekend in Montreal).
- There is a gym, a sauna and an outdoor pool. The pool was closed (winter), but the gym was opened. It is not very big but seemed to have pretty much anything you will need for a short stay, if you are alone in there. (only one cardio machine – Treadmill)
- They held our bags for the remaining of the day after we checked-out at no fees.
- We had a room close to the elevators/ice machine, etc and we never heard our neighbors or people in the hallway.
The Bad:
- Check-in/Check-out was a bit long, but one of the concierges was giving away coffee in the meantime, which was appreciated. Having only two people at hand at the counter made it a very busy spot.
- The outside of the building is very old and ugly. It also has graffiti on it. It would turn-off some people but I can assure you that it doesn’t do justice to the inside.
- Some parts of the hotels have been renovated “on the cheap side”. I personally don’t mind this, if it means they are able to keep the price low.
- There are always many, many people just sitting in the lobby…. At any time of the day/night. I’m not sure why exactly… They don’t bother anyone but I did find it a tad strange.
- Check-out is at 12pm, but the maid entered our room TWICE while we were still in it (10:30am and 11:30am). A tad annoying, especially the time where I was half dressed. She apologized and ran out but these are errors that could be prevented with better management.
- The breakfast (American-style breakfast) wasn’t the best. It offered bacon, sausages, eggs, beans, toasts, juices, etc. but the quality was low (watered down juice, slices of processed cheese, only one kind of fruits, no lighter options. Everything was quite “fattening”. Unless including in my room-rate, I would not eat there again.
- Our winter boots flooded the entrance of our room. A small carpet or boot holder would be great to add to the rooms.
Overall:
Considering the low price that I paid ($99, including breakfast), I would stay here again for a night or two. It was comfortable and provided me with a good night of sleep. Although it isn’t the fanciest place in town, the price/quality was good and it definitely catered to my basic needs.
