“an OK place to stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

This hotel looks a little shabby from the outside and the hallways etc were very plain. However, the staff on the front desk were very helpful and our rooms were clean. The rooms had laminate flooring and a computer for personal use. My friends; room had a fridge but mine did not. The lighting in the room could have been better. The room staff were a little over eager. On the day we were leaving, my room was made up while we were having breakfast. Surely this should have waited until I had checked out. Location is good, just off Rene Levesque and close to the metro. I booked through hot wire and had a very good rate.

Room Tip: Ask for a renovated room on an upper floor

“Perfectly Fine”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

I went away with three friends on a cheap break to Montreal and we booked this hotel as it was offering the best rates.

As some of the reviews below are very negative, I was dreading seeing the hotel. HOWEVER, I was pleasantly surprised.

The lobby was in a decent condition, clean, well-kept and check-in was fast (maybe because we checked in a bit later, at 5pm).

Our room was a large, very clean room with two queen sized beds which were lovely and comfortable after a long day of strolling around the city.

There were no problems with noise at all for us, and we were blown away by what a great location the hotel is in. Literally 3 minutes from St Catherine Street with supermarkets, pharmacies, restaurants and clothes shops galore. Also we were about 5 minutes from Crescent Street where some of the clubs are.

All in all, we were very impressed by the hotel given the price. It's not a 4 star luxuorious hotel, but it certainly is a clean, well-maintained hotel in a prime spot of Montreal.

Enjoy Montreal!

P.S. My only complaint would be the cost of the room telephones. A 2 minute call to Toronto cost me $7! But I guess that's typical of any hotel.

“How is this place rated 4 star?”

I booked this place off booking.com.... I couldn't complain about the price, But you know when something is too good to be true? It usually is.I booked the room got there stayed 5 minutes before my girlfriend pulled a fit and left and had to book an other hotel end up being an expensive night.... This place is posted as a 4 star hotel on the website, with nice pictures. In reality the place is dirty smelly with a mix match of banged up furniture... And the list goes on... I've been trying to get a refund for a week, with no success so far. False advertisement, Bad experience

“Great location; room so-so”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

The hotel is located just a block and a half away from the subway (orange and green lines) and walking distance to Bell Centre. For that reason alone, it's a great place for the money. However, the memory I have about the "memory foam" bed...hard as a rock. Argh. And we were there on a weekend when there was a home game. LOTS of teenage and 20-something fans. Lots of pizza boxes and beer bottles in the hallway. At one point, we had to take the stairs because kids had clogged up the elevators and it was crazy trying to get out of the building and on our way. Bottom line: Although it wasn't horrible, I don't know that I'd book here again.

“catered to my basic needs”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

The Good:
- Location is excellent. Less than 10 minute walk to the Bell Centre and Ste-Catherine Street, you will be able to find many restaurant choices and shopping locations.
- In between two subway station (Orange Line and Green Line), you will not need a car to get around. Parking is available for a fee at the hotel.
- Our room was very clean, great bedsheets, comfortable pillows and renovated bathrooms. No complaints.
- Price is on the low-side, compared to other downtown hotels.
- Rooms have been renovated. Hardwood floors, comfortable beds, flat screen TV with full cable.
- Business Centre on Second floors offers free printing. (but the computers are very slow).
- There is a computer in your room with free internet. Great for finding information.
- Our room also had a little fridge – great to keep cold drinks in it.
- Free wi-fi throughout the building.
- Heater was easy to set ourselves and worked well (very important as it was -35 Celsius that weekend in Montreal).
- There is a gym, a sauna and an outdoor pool. The pool was closed (winter), but the gym was opened. It is not very big but seemed to have pretty much anything you will need for a short stay, if you are alone in there. (only one cardio machine – Treadmill)
- They held our bags for the remaining of the day after we checked-out at no fees.
- We had a room close to the elevators/ice machine, etc and we never heard our neighbors or people in the hallway.

The Bad:
- Check-in/Check-out was a bit long, but one of the concierges was giving away coffee in the meantime, which was appreciated. Having only two people at hand at the counter made it a very busy spot.
- The outside of the building is very old and ugly. It also has graffiti on it. It would turn-off some people but I can assure you that it doesn’t do justice to the inside.
- Some parts of the hotels have been renovated “on the cheap side”. I personally don’t mind this, if it means they are able to keep the price low.
- There are always many, many people just sitting in the lobby…. At any time of the day/night. I’m not sure why exactly… They don’t bother anyone but I did find it a tad strange.
- Check-out is at 12pm, but the maid entered our room TWICE while we were still in it (10:30am and 11:30am). A tad annoying, especially the time where I was half dressed. She apologized and ran out but these are errors that could be prevented with better management.
- The breakfast (American-style breakfast) wasn’t the best. It offered bacon, sausages, eggs, beans, toasts, juices, etc. but the quality was low (watered down juice, slices of processed cheese, only one kind of fruits, no lighter options. Everything was quite “fattening”. Unless including in my room-rate, I would not eat there again.
- Our winter boots flooded the entrance of our room. A small carpet or boot holder would be great to add to the rooms.

Overall:
Considering the low price that I paid ($99, including breakfast), I would stay here again for a night or two. It was comfortable and provided me with a good night of sleep. Although it isn’t the fanciest place in town, the price/quality was good and it definitely catered to my basic needs.
