Our recent stay at Carole's Purrfect B&B left us determined to return.
Great Location: We weren't sure staying outside of "downtown" would work for our family (kids aged 9 and 12), but we all agreed that the Notre-Dame de Grace (NDG) neighborhood was the favorite part of our Montreal experience. We had affordable Thai, Indian, and Japanese dinners, could walk down the street for ice cream and lattes at a cafe, shop in interesting, non-chain stores, and walk to the Vendome station of Montreal's easy-to-navigate metro in under 10 minutes. (The metro carried us to Old Montreal, art museums, and the Biodome without incident.) We did not miss downtown one bit.
Great Hosts: A lot of B&Bs in Montreal wince when you mention the kids. Carole and her pets were warm and welcoming. Our kids loved playing with the dog and communing with the cats. Carole provided loads of great advice, wonderful travel stories, and conversations that engaged not only us but our children.
Great Value: We stayed in the suite, so the kids slept on the sofa bed and we had our own room. If we wanted to cook, the kitchenette was fully equipped. Parking is free.
Great (Flexible) Breakfasts: Carole's morning spread included a wide variety of foods (cereal, Montreal bagels, fruit, yogurt, cheese, eggs cooked to order, etc.) so that the girls didn't have to pretend to like Eggs Benedict or Creme Brulee French Toast or other elaborate-but-not-so-kid-friendly breakfasts . I can say with certainty that we adults were quite content as well.
We've stayed at a lot of places, and our girls rated the Purrfect B&B the best.
