“Orgasmic breakfasts....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 October 2010

Wonderful place. Ken is a wonderful host, exceedingly helpful and friendly. Rooms nice, Located on a quiet street but close to bus and metro. I wen with my wife and another couple on the weekend of October 15-17. Ken was at the door to greet us on arrival & made our friends (who had never been to MOntreal) feel very comfortable. As to the breakfasts, the title sums it up.

“Friendly, relaxed and unusual B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 August 2010

We had a lovely stay with Ken at his friendly B&B. He went out of his way to make us feel welcome and was very helpful with tips and suggestions for our days in Montreal. He even walked us down to the Bixi shop to make sure we had no problems renting bikes! His hospitality was exceptional which was exemplified by his amazing breakfasts.

This B&B is special because of its friendly ambience and welcoming host. THe rooms are clean and have everything you need, however are not the level you would find in a boutique B&B. Its more like staying in somebodies home than a conventional (impersonal!) hotel.

“Like staying with a long time friend!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 August 2010

My husband and I stayed with Ken in September 2009 and I meant to send in these comments long before now! What a great experience we had at Boulanger Bassin. The room itself was certainly not 5 star, although clean and comfortable with lots of hot water and a bathtub. The proprietor, customer service, and gourmet breakfasts were definitely 5 star. We stayed for a total of 5 nights -- 2 nights prior to cycling the Eastern Townships up to Quebec City and back down the west side of the St. Lawrence - 3 nights after our cycling to explore Montreal. Ken was so very relaxed, accommodating, and helpful -- it was like staying with a long time friend.
If you want the Ritz -- don't stay here -- if you want a memorable experience, in a great location, then go for it!

“Superb Establishment with excellent nourishment and great charm”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 June 2010

Ken, the proprietor, is the consummate host, charming, urbane, intelligent, engaging, and his breakfasts are memorable, relaxing, nourishing, and, most of all delicious. The Boulanger du Bassin is for people who do not like the impersonal hotels and want a place that has an intelligent and artful aesthetic. Ken understands discourse, he knows his community, he cares about his guests as is they were family. I have stayed on several occasions and feel as if I 'belong' at his house when I stay. Could anyone ask for more? I have travelled extensively in many countries and cannot recall a more congenial, satisfying experience. As for the rooms, they have personality and are clean and welcoming. No visit to Montreal is complete, as far as I am concerned, without a stay at the Boulanger. I wish we could clone the proprietor.

“An Absolute Horrible and Disguising Place AND extremely rude owner(s)”

Please save your money – sleeping on the streets would have been more comforting – Ken and his “companion” made us feel like dirt and lied several times to us about prices and rates….I cried the entire night ( we obviously left and found somewhere else to stay for the remaindered of our trip.... but ended up paying double for last minute accommodations. please, please do not stay here. The room was dirty, buggy and extremely noisy. We do not recommend staying here
Happy Travels…..
