“Overrated”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 May 2010

Outside parking is 1km from the hotel, they gave us at first a very dusty 2-beds room (decrepit), the A/C was inoperative, an old color Tv, remotes weren't working for both. The new room they gave us was very nice, bed was confortable. The included breakfast was very poor, only toasts and coffee, period. It's overrated. They finally gave us a little reduction on the price, after long negociations with the french manager.
Too pricey for the quality.

“modernize the room”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 September 2009

The room did not have "luxurious accomadations" as advertised in the DK Eyewitness Travel book . The bed was a double bed not a queen. The bed was very uncomfortable with a very thin and hard mattress. The room did not have its own heating and cooling system. If it had been Summer with temperatures above 70 degrees we would have left immediately. We had to keep the windows (with no screens) open for any cool air. They claimed the ice machine was broken all week. We aren't sure they even had one since we never saw one. There wasn't an ironing board or iron in the room. I asked to use one and they said I had to use it in the hallway. I felt like they didn't trust me with it. We went to the breakfast one time and the croissants were dry.

The location was centrally located and near various restaurants. Everyone on the staff was friendly except for the woman who made me iron in the hallway. The interior and exterior of the building was pretty except for the room.

“Beautiful and quaint”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 August 2009

I am from Montreal and know plenty of people who have stayed at the Armor Manoir, and who loved it. I also visited friends in their rooms some years back and remembered the rooms to be beautiful, and the hotel as well. I moved to Toronto for 5 years and recently moved back to Montreal. When my husband and I needed a place to stay while searching for our new Montreal appartment in 2007, we opted for the Armor Manoir. After all, I'd seen the rooms and all my out of town friends stay here when they visit the city.

What I didn't realise was that my friends had paid top price for a room, which I now also recommend doing. Being on a budget, the room we were appointed was not as attractive, and looked down on Sherbrooke St, which was noisy. It didn't matter though: the hotel was absolutely beautiful and the staff were friendly. Although one must be warned: it is true they have some difficulty communicating in English. Being from Montreal I speak French, however my husband - who is American - initially tried to do the reservation over the phone in English and the staff constantly hung up on him. I called them back and ended up doing the reservation myself. I asked them why they hung up and they blamed it on their bad phone line. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt! At the check in it was obvious the staff was struggling with their English but they did their best and smiled, as did my husband who thought it was a great opportunity to test his French. We both found staff to be very friendly and efficient.

The shower in our room had no pressure whatsoever and it felt like that Seinfeld episode where Jerry and everyone have flat hair because of their bad showers. We took in in jest and laughed about it. There was no parking either, so we had to find a parking spot every morning: no problem, we get what we pay for. If we wanted valet parking we'd go to the Hilton or in some downtown hotel. We skipped breakfast, because we preferred to sleep in. Wireless Internet was free, which was wonderful because I spent a good amount of time in our room every morning appartment hunting on the Internet, and making appointments.

Bottom line is we still recommend this place to our visiting friends, and would come back and pay a little bit more for a nicer room next time. Absolutely suitable for a romantic getaway. This is walking distance from every hot spot in Montreal.

“Lovely Place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 July 2009

We stayed here for 2 nights while we toured Montreal. I had read positive TA reviews, and I will add ours. First, to be candid, there is very little free parking on the street, and what there is becomes available only after 5pm, and you'd better be quick about it! We were lucky in that we arrived at 5pm on a Friday, and my husband got a street parking slot (thanks to much help from the staff), and we were able to keep the car there until Sunday morning. I don't know what you'd do if you come during the work week.

We do not mind walking, but the hotel is a distance from Vieux Montreal. The metro is nearby and very efficient, we felt.

The staff at Armor Manoir was very, very helpful, and they all speak excellent English and will even be understanding and kind if you try out your French on them!

We had a lovely and spacious room - unfortunately, it faced the street, and the nights are very noisy - bar goers, partiers, and ambulances - until midnight or so. So, ask for a room away from Sherbrooke.

The breakfast was fine - croissants and a couple other sweet pastries, toast/bagels/Eng. muffins, orange juice, individual portions of applesauce, wrapped granola bars, tea, and coffee.

We thought the price was excellent ($99) and highly recommend the hotel. Incidentally, when I started looking at reviews, I found Armor under "bed and breakfasts," but it is a hotel.

“Good location, great value”

I stayed in one of the smaller rooms with a double bed on the top floor. It was perfect for one, two people would really have to like being close to each other. It was clean and charming. My room had a small sitting area surrounded by windows overlooking De Bullion. It is in a great location, but there is no parking. I had to park on Sherbrooke after 5PM to park for free. However, since I had the back of my car packed with daughter's college "stuff", my car was broken into over night. The back window was smashed and the thief took a bag that probably looked like it had a computer in it. Surprise, there were only hockey skates in it!
Besides the parking problem, I did have a pleasant stay.
