“Good location”

First the disclaimer - we made our reservation through Hotwire. Since we did not know the hotel until after purchasing the reservation, using our method may put you into a different property. But, the nightly room rate was very budget friendly. We were very pleased with this hotel. Our stay was for three nights. The location was perfect; across from a subway stop and a very easy walking distance to great shopping, restaurants, sightseeing locations, parks, and the train station. The rooms were clean, large and nicely furnished. There was a soda vending machine and an ice machine on our floor. The front desk staff members were professional, helpful, and friendly. Our only problem was with a burnt-out light bulb. To bring it to the attention of the housekeeper, we removed it from the lamp and placed it on the nightstand; the housekeeper removed the bulb but did not leave us a new bulb. A stop at the front desk resulted in a new bulb being installed while we were out for dinner.

“Great location, if you get it for a good price, better yet!”

I read all of the reviews on this hotel and they run the gamut from real bad to real good. My opinion from our recent stay would have this property somewhere in the middle. The location is hard to beat. Close to both Chinatown, Old Montreal, St. Catherine St. and right across the street from The Palais des congres Montreal. The service leaves alot to be desired at this place and it really needs a complete make over. The room seemed pretty clean and in good repair. The view was nice from our room. The pool was nice and we had to trouble with the elevated hot tub. We did not eat at the hotel and when I tried to buy a non alcoholic beer, there was none and then the same bartender would not make me a cup of coffee either...so much for customer service! The lobby area is a very relaxing atmosphere with all of the water , fountains and goldfish. We got the room for $68 a night from a Hotwire blind bid. Would we stay again? Certainly!

Room Tip: Get a high room for a better view.

“Let down”

A brand you can rely on? Let down by the lack of an in house bar/snack facility. The In house restaurant served Chinese food only and was extremely open and cold in temperature and atmosphere.

“Nice location, but not what it should be”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

Stayed here a few nights in early 2011. We loved the location - easy walking distance to many popular attractions including the Old Port. The rooms were clean and it was overall a passable stay, and we enjoyed the unique lobby with Chinese accents and a pond. We enjoyed some time in the swimming pool, but the hot-tub was a mess! It sits on top of the floor and you enter by climbing what appears to be a permanently attached step-ladder. The water looked and smelled as if prior guests had all washed their dogs there. We complained to the front-desk, they unapologetically said there were aware of it and it was scheduled for a cleaning soon. YIPS - they didn't even pretend to be surprised!
Overall, while the location was nice, I think there are better places in the area at about the same price.

“So much potential, but continues to suffer”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2012

We stayed one night on an Entertainment Card discount in an executive room. We come here once a year and this year was a major improvement in some areas and a disappointment in others: Pros: heated pool and functioning hottub (this was not the case in previous stays); spacious (executive) room that was ready for us 2.5 hours before check-in; free wi-fi. Cons: the quality of Chez Chine has really declined; the dim sum was once well worth its high price but is now a Chinatown average; the breakfast buffet choices are fewer and blander--no more omelet station, lukewarm congee; we were also charged for cots--I'm not sure if that's industry standard but other chains never charged me. We only stay here for its location and outstanding kid-friendly lobby, but feel forced to look now at other options. Even their liquor licence was pulled. I have made constructive criticisms in the past, as have others. Why doesn't HIS heed these reviews and improve?

Room Tip: Get an Entertainment Card and upgrade with discount to an executive room which includes breakfast
