“Functional and very satisfactory. Great alternative to rip off chains”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 October 2010

If you're at a conference in one of the big hotels (Sheraton etc), or looking for budget hotel then this is a great alternative that is very cheap in comparison and ticks all the boxes. Good location. You'll want to eat and drink out anyway as there are some great local places (rather than the expensive, characterless large international chains).
I joined my partner who was out at a conference but booked into here as the cheaper alternative - we went onto B&B for the leisure part of our stay (which is better alternative again). Check out Bob & Mariko's for B&Bs

“BED-BUGS STAY AWAY”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 September 2010

people found this review helpful

STAY AWAY! They have bedbugs and eventhough the cleaning lady found a living bedbug and we didn't have to pay for our room, they don't want to admit it afterwards. We got bitten all over and now our house is infected and we need to have the pest control to spray the whole building! Wish I never booked a room there, it is horrible!

“Bed bugs and ripoffs and crime, oh my!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 August 2010

Staying at this hotel, even for just a moment (as we checked out and took the loss almost as quickly as we checked in), has left me with an all time low in regards to the service industry.

A list will do just fine.
1) The woman at the front desk was awful. Rude and unwilling to accommodate. And the guy was no better.
2) We were told immediately to remove any valuables or GPS from our car, because it would be broken into, not that it MIGHT be broken in....that it WOULD BE!
3) The pictures online make the rooms look bigger than microscopic, which is a lie. There was 1 foot between the 2 beds, the floors are tile, and my neck turned red and got itchy within 10 minutes of being there.
4) The AC window unit was busted through the wall and held in place with tape.
5) The rooms are so old that they still use standard keys
6) They serve breakfast in a basement (didnt stay long enough to experience this)
7) The rates are the same as the Holiday Inn 2 blocks away, in a better neighborhood, and with rooms 100 times better.
8) Ever person we mentioned the hotel to for the rest of the weekend made itching gestures and laughed and said they would never stay there. The locals know best!!

On a weekend booked solid for a music festival, we were willing to pay 5 times as much NOT to stay at this hotel. It was the worst I have ever seen, and I would not wish it upon my worst enemy. I would sooner recommend staying in the $12 indoor parking garage around the corner and sleeping in your car.

PLEASE....Hotels.com....remove this listing and do not risk the bad press....we complained and were able to receive a full refund for 2 nights for 3 rooms from hotels.com. Thank you for doing right by us....but don't put your customers in this position ever again!

“A real bargain downtown”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 July 2010
2
people found this review helpful

Reading the other reviews, I can't figure out what people are expecting for accommodations 1/2 the price of other hotels in the downtown Montreal area. Our room was small although charming and clean, with A/C and TV that worked fine. It is steps from the metro, on the edge of downtown in a quiet but safe area. It was a restful and convenient stay. Again, if people are expecting 3 or 4 star quality, they should choose to pay for it! This place is a real gem and bargain.

“If you want cheap and kinda clean, steps from the Bell Centre, this is the place.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 May 2010

It is definitely cheap and located in a great area. Just steps from the Bell Centre, many bars and night clubs, shopping, and restaurants....BUT, It isn't the most comfortable of places. My husband and I recently went up for the UFC and managed the get in a hockey game. We love Montreal and usually stay with friends, but they hand relatives staying with them this time....

I am no princess by any means, but this place was pretty nasty. Blankets on bed made me afraid. Stand up shower like someone might have at a cottage, no room to turn around, raise your arms, and if you drop anything you will have to get out to pick it up. Everything seems to be miniature in the room as well. Air conditioner seems to be held to the wall with duct tape. Everything is old and grungie. They do seem to be cleaning constantly, but whatever they are cleaning with has an overwhelming smell, like something bad has happening there and they are tying to cover up the stench.
Breakfast is coffee and toast.
If it's the guys heading up for a game or something and you are planning on being drunk for you stay, this is the place for you.
