The four of us came to Montreal to spend the weekend (Friday-Sunday) and we had a great time...until we came back on Saturday night to find that our room had been ransacked. Almost 2000 dollars worth of stuff went missing. The hotel staff didn't show any sympathy and didn't offer any support. We had to call the police ourselves and no one really talked to us about the incident at all. They even implied that WE left our door open!!! The security system in place is ridiculous and I do not believe that any guests can feel safe in a hotel with such a weak security system. I did not see a security guard on site, and the front desk was empty at night - with staff coming out from the room after hearing people at the desk. I did not think that a hotel would have such little regard for the security and safety of their 'valued guests'. We definately did not feel valued at all and it was devastating that the police arrived around 730am.......we called at 1am...and again at 2am. To top it off, the fire alarm went off several times throughout the night and the elevators stopped working....so when we had to leave the next day, we carried our luggage down the stairs. Prior to leaving the hotel, we spoke to the front desk and was told that there was nothing they could do at the moment and that they have until noon to send the report to the police (the report that records the key card entry) and I called them around 420pm....still nothing. They couldn't retreive the records???? REALLY???? That just seems really shady to me. I still can't believe this...........we need justice.

The Hotel Maritime Plaza is nice, mid-sized hotel that's located within a few minutes walking distance of many great restaurants, pubs and shopping. The rooms are clean, comfortable and modern. I've stayed at this location on several occassions and have always found the staff to be efficient, friendly and helpful. The hotel offers a good value for the price and is always one of my first choices when visiting the great city of Montreal!

In 2011 I went twice to Montreal (March and November) and both times I stayed at the Hotel Maritime Plaza. Conveniently located, I noticed the second time that it had also done some renovation. The room (I think I got the same room both times!) was clean and absolutely comfortable: Montreal is such a beautiful city, otherwise I would have been tempted to spend even more time in my room!

We stayed here for three nights during September 2011. Our stay was OK, but we really didn't feel it lived up to our expectations.
The service was a bit lacking. Checking in and out was easy, but we definitely got some attitude from the front desk staff... maybe because we didn't speak French?
We ate breakfast at the hotel on our first morning. After being ignored for a good 5 minutes while waiting to be greeted and showed to a table we decided to find our own table (as it was just buffet). It was only as we were finishing up that we got any attention and then found out that breakfast was not included in our stay and we had to pay. I do not remember exactly what we paid, but it was way too high for what we received. Needless to say we didn't eat there again.
The room was clean and reasonably comfortable, however it felt run down. A far cry from the "elegantly appointed" rooms described on their website.
On the upside the location was pretty good. It was a short walk to the nightlife on Crescent Street and not too far to go to the nearest subway station.
Overall I struggle to recommend this hotel. It is OK for a budget stay if the location appeals to you, however if I went back to Montreal I would definitely pay the extra to stay in Old Montreal.
