“Nice location, but poor quality rooms and runny scrambled eggs”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

OK here it is, big and presumably decent urban hotel in downtown Montreal, but rooms - on 10th floor anyway - are cramped, outdated, and feature the following : a 1975 26" Zenith big box TV with fuzzy screen on all channels (how can any hotel of that class not have flat screens and decent signal?); absence of any glass glasses or ceramic coffee mug in the room... only carton gobellets... horrifying (any hotel of that class would have real glasses and mugs); the combined toilet light/ceiling fan made so much noise you had to shower in the dark otherwise you would disturb the 13 strip clubs in nearby St-Catherine Street. The beds and pillows were OK but nowhere close to much better in smaller hotels like Courtyard by Marriott for instance. The 17$ buffet breakfast was your typical overpriced hotel affair with liquid scrambled eggs, but we endured it to eat with our travelling group. Overall a failing grade mostly due to the cheap and outdated rooms. Very disappointed given the "Hotel des Gouverneurs" name.

Room Tip: Ask for any room that has been upgraded since Expo 1967, as clearly many have not. And ask for glas...

“Gouverneur Place Dupuis very good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

We stayed for two nights in late January 2012. The staff was efficient and willing to speak English to help our dreadful French; the room was clean and warm although we had trouble regulating the room temperature. The hotel is attached to an indoor shopping plaza with a food court for immediate kid-friendly dining. The pool is not large but enough to please the kids; we didn`t try the spa. The parking garage was under reconstruction and a tight fit for our Mazda, by no means a large car. The hotel is a 15-20 min walk to old Montreal. It is in the down-town area, so there are many homeless in the area, but the view was amazing, the staff excellent and I would choose to stay there again.

Room Tip: Rooms on the south-east side have a view of the park and Mont-Royal. Bring a safety pin for the blac...

“Affordable. Great value !”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

We stayed at this hotel at the beginning of January 12.  We called in without a reservation and we got a really good room on the 25th floor with a beautiful view of Ste-Catherine.  The clerk was very helpful and friendly yet professional.  The room was a superior, nicely refurbished with nice furniture. The floor was very quiet and we didn't hear any sound from our neighbours.  It was clean although we found some toast crumbs next to the bed and a bit of dust behind the bedside table.  However, the bathroom was very clean.   We decided to stay at this hotel because we were going to a hockey game and since the hotel is right above the Berry-UQAM metro station, we could make it to the Bell Centre without having to wear our winter coats !!! How cool is that ?!  The next morning, we had breakfast at their buffet and it was very good and the service was excellent.  Julio was our server.  We will definitely stay there again on our next trip to Montréal.

This review is written by a long time guest at this Hotel. For 10 years I have spent New Years Weekend at this Hotel, where I am treated as an Honored Guest/Family member.

I DISAGREE WITH THE FOLLOWING
AREA AROUND HOTEL IS DANGEROUS
ROOMS DATED
........... I have stayed in all types of Hotels from the age of -1. I have stayed at Everything from a simple ski lodge to the Most expensive Hotels in the World. Beverly Hills Hotel, Peninsula Beverly Hills, Plaza Hotel NYC. The area around the Hotel is VERRRY SAFE.
I have walked the streets at all hours and have had no Problem. Hello people just say NO TO all people that approach you!!!! as a Retired Educator who taught in a Ghetto I speak with experience. First this Neighborhood is Like NYC Whether i am at 940 Park Ave, or any address. People on streets harmless!!!!!
Rooms. The people inmhoa stay in the Standard Rooms and are Machas. Yiddish for trying to get better for no Money. I have stayed in all 3 levels of rooms. You want a Nicer room you pay more, like anywhere else. In No other City can I stay on a Business Floor 5 stars for these rates.

The Staff: Lino the Room manager down to the Room Cleaners "GO OUT OF THE WAY TO MAKE YOUR VISIT SPECIAL"

This Trip I had 2 non related hotel Problems involving my Lost Coat. Phone calls to all places I visited the previous day were called to no Avail. My jacket was located by Dave from Security, and Hand Delivered to my Room. I find that people need to ask for help DURING THE VISIT, NOT AFTER.

I do not work for any Hotel, nor do i write reviews as a favor. The Place Dupuis is my Favorite Hotel in the WORLD. I am greeted by name every year, as Jon. if you have any specific questions post them.

I am extremely critical, and have yet in 10 years to have any issues that were not addressed quickly. As the Son of a Retired Military Officer, The Hotel treats me better then any Embassy that i have visited.
6 Stars to The Place Dupuis!!!

Room Tip: High Floor city View!!! Superior Rooms very Nice also!!

“BACK FOR NEW YEARS”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2012

was back to montreal and the hotel gouverneur for new years.
hotel was packed and busy, but staff very helpful and friendly.
room were more than ample and the bathrooms have to be the best and cleanest in montreal!
inspite of the crowds in and around the hotel, noise level was nil!
spa was closed during the weekend.
booking site offers a number of price options and inspite of being new years the rates were not inflated.
have stayed at hotel four times this year -- this is my preferred hotel in montreal as it is on top ofthe metro system and connected to it.
there is a drug store and supermarket accessible within the complex.
