“I will never go back !”

Hi everybody, I’ve just returned from a night stay at the Hotel La Sagueneenne in Chicoutimi and here is my review. I had originally planned on staying two nights but I left the very next day. I rate hotels by the sleep comfort, no matter how nice a room can be if for some reason you can’t sleep well it’s not what it’s meant to be. I checked in late afternoon and everything seemed great, the room was a decent size, and I had a nice pool view. I did notice that it was impossible to open the windows since they were bolted in place. My room 207 had a queen size bed and a spongy worn out sofa bed, it also had a small fridge, coffee machine, and a few extra amenities. Later in the evening I decided to start the air conditioning unit to cool down the room, it started but the noise level was such that I couldn’t longer hear the television, I couldn’t’ t believe it. I figured that it would run smooth after a few minutes but no. I’m convinced that this unit was the original unit that was installed back in the 70’s, the compressor sounded like I was in a machine shop, really incredible I tried to see if I could reduce the noise by lowering the settings but that didn’t help, deafening decibels. I called the front desk and I must have been speaking loud due to the noise, I asked them if I could switch rooms because of the noise that my air conditioned was making, the receptionist who was very nice informed that all the rooms had these old units, what a disappointment, I had read disappointing reviews about this place but I figured they were isolated cases. In any case I tried to sleep it off but I just couldn’t sleep properly. I hope that the management reads my review, and I would love to hear their comments. Aside from the noise level, the room was okay, nothing special and it could definitely use some remodeling. So for the final question, would I return to Hotel La Sagueneenne? Definitely not, and I would recommend you try another hotel instead. Cheers!!

Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We appreciate all the feedback we can get. I do apologize for the noisy AC system that you had in your room. We test alternate solutions to modifying in-room AC system, unfortunately, we cannot do all rooms in the same time. Hotel La Sagueneenne is committed to provide great service and experience to all clients coming through our doors.

“Deplorable...would not stay there ever again!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 August 2011

Very disappointing from the start because room was not ready at check-in time 3:00. We had to take a smoking room because we had our pet. Got in by patio door and the screen almost fell off. Smell of smoke was very strong in room plus there was smoke in the corridor as if we were still in the 1970's. The carpets were disgusting, stained in numerous places with who knows what. There were two beds in the room. Only one bed was usable because the other bed had it's back broken! Hotel was described with Internet service in room and it never worked even after getting 2-3 bs fixes from the front desk. My guess is that the Internet has never worked in this room. In the business room, the Internet was very slow. We only chose this hotel because it was the only one in the area accepting pets. Could not wait to leave the next morning even though we did not sleep well. Price was too expensive for this room 124$ plus taxes is way too much for this! There does not seem to be any upgrades done to this room since it was built.

Thank you for your comment, we welcome all constructive criticism, as it help us to get better. We were sorry to read that you had to take a smoking room/ pets allowed, because our non-smoking rooms/ pets allowed, were not available at time of booking. With the advent of smart phones and touch pads, it is true that our Internet service may experience failures in times of high traffic, we are currently evaluating proposals to upgrade our system in the coming months.

“Came for business, returning for pleasure”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 October 2010

I stayed at the Hotel La Sagueneenne, traveling on business earlier this month. It was nice to receive such a great welcoming at the front desk, after traveling all day - nice people. The bi-lingual staff was very helpful. Much appreciated as I was traveling from the US. After dinner I was able to spend some time relaxing and unwinding at their pool. The room was quite nice, very comfortable, clean, and quiet, allowing me to get a good night sleep. Quick workout in the morning, and a trip to the hot tub, ready to go! I do plan on coming back later this winter, but this time for pleasure. They offer a number of packages that I read about. Particularly interested in the dog sled package!

“Caution!”

We travel frequently in 100$ a night hotels and know what to expect. We chose to stay at this hotel while visiting Lac St-Jean because of the picture of the swimming pool and the positive reviews. As soon as we came in we got a sour feeling. There was such a strong smell of cigarettes by the first floor elevator that we decided to take the elevator by the second floor. The room was quite ugly (stucco on the walls, very old looking carpet... and the beds were extremely hard (springs we poking through the mattress). There was also very little water coming from the shower so it was quite difficult to rinse yourself. We asked to change room because we knew that sleeping would be difficult but the man at the front desk did not know if there was any room with newer beds.

The restaurant was very expensive, so we decided to eat out.

There is only one elevatore for the whole hotel and the housekeeping service uses it constantly so if you are lucky enough to get the elevator you have to share it with a large loundry cart.

We were in bed wondering how we would be able to sleep on these uncomfortable beds, when we saw someone running by our sliding door. Since our sliding door was opening on the roof of the hotel, we had kept our curtains open, so you can imagine our surprise to see someone out there. We phoned the front desk who suggested that it was the wind... But my husband had seen a man running outside. We made sure that the sliding door was locked and the curtains closed.

The pool was fine, nothing special but fine; it was however quite strage to have some roomes with their sliding doors opening on the swimming pool; so, when you are swimming, you see the inside of these bedrooms...

We were very disappointed with our stay. This was not a business trip, it was a cute family and we did not expect a smelly, dirty and uncomfortable stay. If we come back to Chicoutimi, we will choose a different hotel.

Thank you for your review about your stay. Be assured that your comments have been heard and actions have been taken. We asked to our housekeeping department to pay particular attention to mattresses and inform us if there are mattresses that need to be changed so that can be done before the end of the year. We strive to achieve the complete satisfactions of all our guests. In regards to the restaurant menu, our pricing is in line with similar properties in this area and we feel that we offer good value given our location and extensive facilities. However, in your case it appears we failed to meet your expectations, and for that I am truly sorry.

“What a pool, what a great show!”

I stayed in this hotla after finding it on the internet, they had a great site.
My wife and I were doing a trip accross Quebec for a few weeks and stayed at this hotel....
We stayed two nights, we had the chance to watch a show, a tribute to Abba which was just fantastic. The size of the room, the accoustics and stage were breath taking!
The hotel also has an amazing pool, two whirlpools and a sauna, perfect place to relax after a day of motorcycle around lac st-jean...
We tried the hotel restaurant for breakfast, the food was very good, I recomend the brunch!
Overall an awesome stay, close from all the attractions and shoping too...
Thank you for the stay
