“This place was very poor value for money.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 June 2009

We stayed in room 201. While a more spacious suite than a regular hotel room, it was shabby and poorly equipped and lit. Having stayed in a couple of excellent B and B's in PEI before, we were completely disappointed by the Mermaid Suites. I don't know what has happened since the previous reviews, but there was no maid service and the place seems to have deteriorated.

As for the owner, he seemed to forget that we were even coming. We hardly felt welcomed except by the nice young lady in the fish and chip shop below, who, it turned out, had the key.

This place would be suitable for student accommodation, but is definitely not a luxury suite as implied on its website.

The only thing it has to recommend it is a great location. This also has its pros and cons. It can by noisy at night and in the early morning.

We have generally had a wonderful stay in PEI and this is the only disappointment we've encountered.

“Loved it !! best find in downtown C'town!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 March 2008

Visited C'town in Feb for business - wanted a private place with wireless internet and close to government buildings and restaurants.
Could not fault these units - stayed in suite 300 felt like i was in a Manhatten appartment! Excellent quality.
Will be back!

“great little find”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 June 2007

My wife and i were looking for a nice place to stay in the heart of Charlottetown - boy did we find it! Beautiful room with Jet air tub for 2!!
The owner Paul Picked us up from the airport - directed us to all the great restaurants and even offered to take us back to the airport on departure day -
There was a little street noise - but nothing really if you consider that your steps from everything - A great stay!

“Mermaid Suites - delightful!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 October 2006

My wife, baby daughter, and I stayed here in early July 2006. We loved it! Our suite (201) was spacious, new, and very attractively furnished. The folks at Mermaid Art knew we were bringing a baby and thoughtfully set up a high chair and even had outlet covers waiting. Broadband was fast and reliable.

We live in Midtown Atlanta and like being in an urban setting. This location was right in the heart of Charlottetown, with a variety of superb restaurants and cafes within a few blocks. The complimentary breakfast certificate entitled us to a variety of items at a cafe downstairs, which was excellent and staffed with friendly people.

The bed was comfortable and we even made use of the sofa bed, which was also comfortable. There's no central air, but a free-standing AC connected to one window did an ample job of cooling the apartment on the hottest day of July. Everything was extremely clean. The only item we felt was lacking was a dishwasher.

Parking might seem like an issue if you're not used to being in a city, but we really felt it was no big deal -- there's a garage just a block away that was very modestly priced.

On the last day, the housekeeper helped us get our bags to the car, and everyone we dealt with was delightful. We consider this, the Berlin Marriott on Potsdamer Platz, and the Ritz Carlton Lake Oconee to be our all-time 3 favorite places to stay (and this from a field of more than 2 dozen hotels we stay at each year). We highly recommend staying here and hope to rent the whole place out for a stay with family sometime in the near future.

  • Liked — Furnishing level, size, location, staff, Internet
  • Disliked — Lack of dishwasher, getting up stairs a bit hard with stroller
  • Tips/Secrets — Recommend to anyone except those with mobility issues getting up the stairs.
