“AN okay stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

Stayed at the Rodd in August. The location of the hotel is very good, within walking distance to many sites and restaurants. Our check in experience was interesting. We had booked for six and paid well in advance and arrived the same time as some tours. Our room was over looking the giant air conditioning unit. We we requested a different room we were moved one floor up with the same view of the air conditioner. We finally got abetter room but it should not have taken two days. The desk staff were friendly while trying to make the change. The rooms are rather small, but the view from the roof top are outstanding.

“+Old Style, Excellent Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 October 2011

This is a typical hotel built early in the 20th century - smallish rooms, small bathroom. But it still has some of the class associated with these older properties. A very nice rooftop terrace with a great view. Location is excellent for the downtown area, within easy walking distance to the best restaurants. Note that the elevator does not go to the top floor where the suites are located.

Room Tip: Avoid booking a suite if stairs are a problem.

“Historical building, bed of mush”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 October 2011

I stayed here recently for a conference. Room has antique furniture in keeping with the historical building. Usually wireless in places like this are slow but this one was surprisingly fast. Nice desk and comfortable wingback armchairs. Modern flatscreen plasma seems out of place but appreciated. The channels are not intuitive and there is no guide feature. The bed was strangely soft, so much so that I sunk right into the bed. The bathroom lighting has to be left on for several minutes to be bright enough to do anything in. Roomy closets. Conference room kind of cozy but suited our needs. Food decent. Walking distance to downtown mall and the ocean.

“Classic and pleasant”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 October 2011

We stayed here because the hotel we had booked lost our reservations and recommended the Rodd. I'm glad they did. They had a fruit basket at the desk that was empty the whole time we were there, but it has a nice quiet atmosphere and is near a beautiful park. The rooms are more kindly described as classic than obsolete. Ours was well-appointed and comfortable, but so cramped as to be inconvenient. The fixtures are dated. They were surely luxurious circa 1930, but the addition of a TV and modern amenities takes up more space than there is to spare. I can't comment on the restaurant as it appeared to be closing so we ate in the bar. The food was good enough to be memorable and the server was outstandingly efficient and friendly. All in all, this is a classically nice and quiet hotel for people who like atmosphere more than modern convenience and enjoy being treated as guests.
