“Good value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 November 2011

Having looked at many hotels in Windsor, the Days Inn consistently gets good reviews. The hotel is good value and in a part of Windsor which makes it easy to walk around. There are a number of bars and restaurants within 10 minutes walk. The breakfast buffet is okay but then it is included in the price and we used it only one day, the other days we went out for breakfast. My only criticism really is the lack of bathroom items, we had to purchase some things at the nearby CWS.
It is really easy to get to the Windsor/Detroit tunnel if you are crossing the border.
The next time we go to Windsor we will be staying at this hotel.

“One night stay at the Days Inn Windsor”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 November 2011

My husband were passing through Windsor and pre-booked the Days Inn. It was easy to get to and right in downtown Windsor. There are plenty of restaurants and bars close by all iswithin walking distance. We could see the Ceasers Casino from the hotel and I am sure it was within walking distance but we never made it there.
Check in was quick and easy and I paid by debit. A $50 deposit was required for paying cash but that was returned at checkout. We had the room for $91.00 inlcuding tax with a 10% CAA Discount.
We were in room 325 which was a corner room with lots of windows. I thought it would be very noisy buy it wasn't bad at all. The odd siren but nothing that woke me. We had a king bed with a desk, chair, ottoman, bar fridge, coffe maker and TV. The room was simple and clean and that was good enough for me. The sheets and towels and very, very soft! Unusual for hotels. The bathroom is basic, sink tub & toilet and plenty of hot water. The heat was off when we checked in so we turned it up and within an hour or so it was comfoortable for sleeping.
Check out was quick and easy, no problems there.
Would I stay there agin? Yes.
Would I reccommend it? Yes.
Overall for a one night stop over, the location & price The Days Inn Wiondsor was was just fine :-)

“Terrific manager who personalized my stay based on my needs; very accommodating staff.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 October 2011

First of all, I must say this...I'm a budget traveller; I'm a single male with no kids who travels alone. I often travel to run marathons (Detroit Marathon 2011!) and check out job prospects at the same time. For my situation, with no car, I needed to be downtown in Windsor where I could access transit, fitness (YMCA is 2 blocks), and shopping. Manager understood this and gave me an amazing weekly rate. Front desk staff went above and beyond (recommendations for my Niagara Falls trip, moved me to a quieter area of the hotel knowing I needed a good nights sleep before the marathon). These are the things that make me a loyal, returning customer. Now, if I had kids, a partner, parents along, we'd likely stay where there was a pool, waterpark and so on). I got two job offers as well as a great marathon experience, and I'll definitely be back!

“It Ain't All That..”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 September 2011

Used Trip Advisor to choose this hotel and booked online for about $115/night and stayed in Sept 11. I was underwhelmed with it based on the comments here. I requested a quiet room and was given a room on the first floor (131). It was quiet - and this is a good thing - but it didn't smell fresh (my spouse thought there was some residual smoke smell in the non-smoking room - could have been just stale air since there is no fan) and was in need of an update. The room layout was pretty typical with a (slightly noisy) fridge and 30 inch TV at the foot of the double beds. First the good: the hotel is convenient to much of what you'd want to access in town, beside the tunnel to the US, clean, with free wi-fi, free parking (covered and not), free local calls, in-room temp controls (the usual level of sound of these), blue-box in the room, there was a bench and a luggage rack for our bags, and everything worked (except for some signal issues with the TV).

What I didn't like - the room was dated and old (but housekeeping does a great job of cleaning), there was no fan in the bathroom, the bathroom door is in the way of the sink/ closet area and is very badly planned, there is nowhere to hang your hand towels, no counter space for toiletries (a pet peeve for me), the beds are very uncomfortable (too hard for me), and the room was dimly lit (I couldn't even open the windows for light because I was on the ground floor).

The 'continental breakfast' was pretty spare. We went at 9am on Sunday morning to find that they were 'running low' - one butter pack, one cream cheese pack, 3 bagels, one apple, 2/3 cereals were out, there was no coffee. My spouse went to ask about it at the front desk... they added a few more fridge-cold mini-croissants, brewed some coffee, and put out some more cups. About 20 people showed up after us... not sure how they fared. The tables were never cleaned, and nothing else was filled. The second day was only a little better. I just bought coffees from McDonald's next door. I think a full breakfast there (if you are early) would have 3 cereals with milk, orange/ apple juice, some white bread for toast, bagels, butter, honey, peanut butter, and cream cheese packs, a few grocery store mini bread-croissants, mini-cinnamon rolls and mini-muffins. Below average for this sort of establishment.

I rate for value, and I have to say that the Windsor hotel I stayed in a few months ago had a much better room and better experience all around - so better value for about the same $$. I'd rate this about a 2.6

“Good choice for stay in downtown Windsor”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 September 2011

I stayed in the Days Inn Windsor for 2 days over the Labour Day long weekend. Overall, I had a good stay and would recommend this hotel to other travellers.

I picked this hotel based on reviews from Trip Advisor. The hotel is located just outside the downtown core. It is a slightly older hotel with 3 floors. The hotel is right next to a McDonalds and there is a Food Basics grocery store, Tim Horton's, beer store and Shoppers Drug Mart nearby. The tunnel to the USA is right down the street.

The room was very clean and we had an upgraded room with a fridge, which was a nice touch so we could store drinks and food. The air conditioning unit was very noisy however, and it was hard to sleep because of it. We were on the ground floor and should have asked to be moved to a higher floor, as we didn't feel comfortable opening the blinds. There was also free parking and free Wifi. Many of the hotels in the downtown core didn't offer free parking.

There was a free breakfast with cereal, milk, bagels with cream cheese toast, mini-muffins, juice, coffee and fruit. There was no hot food, but it had all the basics. The breakfast was from 7:00 to 10:00 am.

The staff at the front desk were very helpful and gave us a number of good restaurant suggestions. The City Grill on Oulette was too expensive, but the "On the Avenue" restaurant at the Holiday Inn was yummy. Also heard the Tunnel BBQ restaurant (just up the street) was VERY good, but we never made it there.

The only major complaint was the parking situation. There was only a small amount of parking on the ground level behind the hotel. Other spots were available in a parking garage above and below ground. The above ground portion had a very narrow entrance way and it was a challenge to get enough room to make the turn to go down the ramp. The walls of the ramp were also covered with scratches from cars. So the parking lot there was a bit challenging.

Also, as a word of caution about safety in the area. There are several boarded up buildings in downtown Windsor and sometimes people are hanging out in front of bars or other buildings. There were always people hanging out in front of McDonalds and sometimes at night, it didn't feel too safe to walk back to the hotel. There is nothing that the hotel could do about this obviously, but solo women travelling may want to pick a bigger hotel on Riversides Drive.

Regardless of this, we will need to go to Windsor several more times in the next year and will likely stay at the Days Inn again. I would recommend this hotel for families. It doesn't have a pool or fitness centre. But it is a good, clean hotel that has a free breakfast, and parking. It covers all the basics and that is fine.
