“The staff went over and above.”

I stayed at the Windsor Riverside Inn with my girlfriend in January, 2012. The hotel is clean, the beds are comfortable, and if you splurge for a River View Room, the view of the Detroit River and the Detroit Skyline is fabulous. Additionally, the rooms were very reasonably priced. The staff were helpful and knowledgable about restaurants in the area, and ended up directing us to La Guardia, an italian restaurant a short walk from the hotel, which was, in and of itself, an excellent dining experience, and the most romantic date of my life. But here is where the staff of the hotel thoroughly impressed me: My girlfriend accidentally left the domelight in her car on when we parked in the parking facility. When we went to check out two days later, her car wouldn't start. We asked the front desk for help, and they called pretty much every employee they had (or so it seemed) to see if anyone had jumper cables. When that failed, they tried calling other hotels in the area for help. When that failed, one of the hotel employees (I got the impression he was maintenance) actually drove home to get his own jumper cables, and came back to the car park and saved the day. That is going over and above, and I was totally blown away by their commitment to customer service. My girlfriend and I will definitely be staying at the Windsor Riverside Inn again.

Room Tip: The River View room, while slightly more expensive (about $20 more, I believe) is definitely worth i...

“Great location, clean dated rooms”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 January 2012

I have stayed here numerous times and have found the staff to be first class. My last stay was January 1, 2012 and even though the hotel is no longer a Radisson, the staff continues maintaining the rooms perfectly. The front desk has also been very nice about late check out when I have needed it, which is a great plus. There is a shuttle to the Casino every Friday and Saturday. I wish there were one every day.

The Hilton and the Riverside should get together and run a shuttle on the other days. It would make winter Casino runs so much nicer.

On the minus side, the TV is a 15 year old Phillips Tube type that was a bad TV even 15 years ago. As another person indicated, the toilet is mounted so close to the wall you will feel a bit claustrophobic. The Select number bed is very nice and allows adjustments from soft to firm, and even a different adjustment for my wife on the king bed than what I selected. If you hate select beds this is a minus. There is free internet service in each room, BUT NO WIRELESS service except in the lobby.

I feel you can't go wrong staying here or at the Hilton next door.

Room Tip: Ask for Riverview and a high floor.

“Uncomfortable sleep”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 December 2011

The hotel and the rooms are very clean, fairly spacious and the service was good. The fact that the decor in some rooms is a little dated and they have older tube TV's didn't bother us. We enjoyed the pool and hot tub. The problem was an uncomfortable bed, a hot room and noisy neighbours. Some people apparently love the Sleep Number Beds, but we've never used them, were given no instruction on how to set them up, and no matter what we did our king size bed felt lumpy and uncomfortable. Second, the room was 74 degrees F. The first night we turned the heat off, but the temperature never dropped. When we asked for assistance the next day they sent someone up and essentially we were running the air conditioning -- in December! The noisy unit kicked on and off all night and whenever it went off the room would heat up again very quickly. Lastly, the hotel is easy walking distance to the casino, so if you've got a family looking to sleep be aware that there are going to be other people wide awake in the hotel at all hours. Our neighbours on the first night talked loudly in their room past midnight and then headed out to the casino, returning in the wee hours.
We got a deal on our two rooms through Expedia. If we had paid full price, I would have been more than disappointed with this hotel experience.

Room Tip: Nice view of Detroit on the river side rooms.

This is a great hotel, the view was amazing, and the beds are so comfortable. We found the staff to be the best in Windsor.

“Will not be back”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 December 2011 via mobile

I did not prebook a room because we wanted to see it first ,and when I asked I was told NO I could not preview the room..in all our travels this has never happened most hotels are happy to show their rooms .We needed a room so we took one on the 19 th floor. The elevator was noisy and slow, when we arrived on the 19 th floor we were greeted with a very musky, moldy smell and carpeting that was old and stained. The entrance to the room was claustrophobic , the toilet paper is so close to the toilet you have to sit a bit sideways so your arm is not hitting the roll, the carpeting was old and stained. The furniture should have been donated to a thrift store many years ago.
The good news is that the bed and pillows were very comfortable.
Not only would I not recommend this hotel to a friend I would not recommend it to an enemy.
