“Great View, Spacious Room but...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012 via mobile

We were very pleased being on the 47th floor. The view was great! Our Superior Suite was very spacious & comfortable. I agree with some reviews, the furniture in the living area is a bit outdated & stained. The carpet was old & it had a big stain. Bathroom was spacious. Kitchenette also came in handy.

Although the location & set up of The Bistro is a little odd, the food is delicious! Really good portions & tasty. The service was great during the evening. Not so much when we went for The Buffet breakfast. Waitress wasn't attentive but the food was quite good.

Valet desperately needs upgrading. Very complicated system and it takes forever to get your vehicle.

“Worst stay in Toronto ever!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012
1
person found this review helpful

Where do I start. I'll start with the plus - amazing room view, location and rate. However, there's other hotels with those perks.

It truly was my worst stay at a Toronto hotel and I've had hundreds of stays over the years in this city.

Here's a summation of my 6 days of utter disappointment in this hotel:

- Room deodorizer nearly made me vomit. For four days I had the window open (freezing) to try and get the smell out and had to write a note every day for the cleaning staff not to use it. It wasn't just my room as I had a friend staying on the same floor with the same smell.

- No tub and nearly killed myself in the shower. One TINY soap holder in the show and that's it. No rail to hold on to, no shelves. So I had to keep bending down to get my shampoo, etc. and just about fell countless times with nothing to grab on to. Serious safety issue. The shower head looked like it hadn't been replaced since the 70's or 80's.

- The staff seemed to be the most apathetic bunch ever. And were just plain wrong and not helpful. I asked directions to use the PATH three times from the bellman's desk and was told that I couldn't get to my destination from PATH. I KNEW I could but couldn't quite remember as I hadn't used this section of PATH for some time. Each time, and with three different employees, they argued with me and just gave me instructions for using the street (which any idiot could figure out and plus it was freezing - thus my wanting to use PATH). Other employees gave me wrong locations of restaurants and assured me I didn't need a reservation to KI on a Sunday night - no kidding as KI was closed when I arrived.

- Wake up calls were wrong two out of six nights - sort of important when on a business trip. And one night it took over 20 minutes to even get through for a wake-up call at all.

- People calling the hotel trying to reach me told me that they gave up being on hold the hole time. Had to take all calls on my cell phone.

- The internet was horrible and I needed a password everyday - not problem but I'd get put through to 4 different people, on hold and waiting at least 15 minutes every time I needed a code.

- There is no way in the entire universe that this is a 4 star hotel.

The "no biggies" but would have been nice were:
- Towels were very small and old
- No Housecoat
- Bathroom with an actual door - not a sliding door
- Cleaning service earlier - never say anyone on my floor before 1pm and even though I called many mornings to have my room cleaned, it was never done before mid-afternoon.
- The full kitchen is nice if you're the type of traveler to cook (I'm not) but it wasn't at all equipped with anything to cook with. Typical type of lack of attention to detail of this hotel.
- Rooms could have used a reno - carpet lifting and tired furniture.

Even if I were paid, I would not return to this hotel.

Hi gal_businesstraveler,

I do appreciate your feedback and am sorry to hear you weren’t happy with your recent stay with us. I always say that constructive criticism is good for business – it helps us to keep getting better.
We’re going to look into your towel suggestion, and housecoats can always be arranged upon request. Although cleanliness of our rooms is very important to us, we certainly don’t want to overwhelm our guests! We’ll look into ensuring our cleaning processes are not too excessive.
We are currently in the process of installing top of the line, 100 MB/s wireless internet throughout our hotel, which will be available to our guests in the very near future. Should our guests require internet access for the duration of their stay, we’re happy to arrange for one access code that they can use for the period of time they’re with us.
Again, I thank you for sharing your comments.

“the good and the sad”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

Third place here, this time for Valentine's day and a concert...booked an extra special room for a 2 night stay...got 24th floor with great view of city. The previous two times here we had made use of the kitchenette and cooked dinner...so plan was to get food at st lawrence market and cook in our room. This time we could not get pots/pans from hotel (not a problem the last two times we were here)...this time, no go..they didn't tell us we could not get them and by 6 pm, no dinner and no dinner reservations...concert at 8 pm....not happy with this, if you are going to put kitchennette in room, equip it. Other than that stay was great, liked the little croissant place across the road, starbucks nearby for a fix, close to Massey Hall for concert. Not sure i would stay again if i was going to cook though, so don't count on that.

Hi Hoppy1971,
Thank you for your feedback. I’m glad to see you were happy with our location, but sorry to hear you weren’t able to get the kitchen supplies you needed. I’m going to look into this situation, as we do have pots and pans available for our guests, as you have experienced at our hotel in the past. We take our guests’ satisfaction very seriously and are able to arrange for you to have just about anything you need while you’re with us.
I do hope you stay with us again in the future, and let us show you why we’re one of Toronto’s leading hotels. I would be happy to welcome you back - feel free to email me directly at gm@onekingwest.com.

“Great location and superb view from the higher floors.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

Not a 4 star in my opinion, my room had stained carpets and furniture but a comfortable bed which was great. The location downtown is within walking distance of lots of attractions and restaurants. The building and architectural features have been kept up which is nice. The valet car service was good and efficient, once you find the entrance. Drive south of King on Yonge St. and take the first right and stop, the valet will come out and take your car. I think there are better places for the money.

“Don't look anywhere else in Toronto”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

I've stayed in a good few hotels in Toronto over the last year as I travel on business and I now make a point in booking in the One King West as well as the other guys who travel with me.

When your away from home you try to find the place that feels a little like home and this can be said here. Steve the GM and all the staff from management through to the kitchen, bar, reception and the parking guys are helpful, friendly and professional. The food is really good, the rooms are more than big enough for a single business traveller as well as couples, super clean & the hotel couldn't be in a better location in downtown.

On my last trip my wife came with me and she can't stop raving about One King West, and she's not easily pleased...

The gym on the 17th floor is small, yes, but has everything you need and I've never been in and had too wait for equipment.

Along with the hotel being within the PATH system and close to the main entertainment area it's position on King Street allows for a short walk to a multitude of top restaurants and bars honestly, you don't need to look anywhere else in Toronto downtown.

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor and if you can get them any room that finishes 10.
