“Do not stay here!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 September 2009

We stayed here for our first two nights in Canada. We had been seduced by promotional material promising excellent service in an heritage hotel. Never have we been more disappointed. We can honestly say this was probably the worst hotel we have ever stayed in in all our years of travelling.

We should have read the visitors' book as soon as we arrived. It was full of negative comments but, surprisingly, was still left out on view. Our list of complaints was long but this is a ghost hotel; there is no one around to complain to. At breakfast there was no service. A man glued to a computer in the kitchen told us they had run out of bread, juice and cereal. None was found by the next day. The phone system in the rooms didn't work. They wouldn't call a taxi for us 'in case it didn't turn up'. Smoke detectors hung off the ceiling without batteries. The list is endless.
Our booking agents have refunded our money because they were so horrified and they are attempting to now get money back from the management (although there didn't appear to be any!)
Fortunately in the rest of our month long stay in Canada we never experienced anything else like this. It's a great country. Just don't spoil it by going to this hotel.

“worst hotel ever”

I dont know how people would spend their money to be abused at such a place.
I had only one night there and it was the worst hotel I have ever been to. In fact, it wasn't much of a hotel just two nice victoria houses. The buildings themselves were very nice but the hotel sucks. First of all, we were told that they have a parking about 5mins walk which is like 2 full block away took me 10 mins to walk back. Then the room is tiny. The shower is extremely small hardly turn around. the bathroom is seperated from the shower also for one person only. The room is only big enough for a queen, the TV was like the oldest one you can find today very small. And the room was very cold, I was told that the house were central heated, just could feel that at all. So I got a small portable heater from the staff which was very helpful. The breakfest wasnt impressive at all expect the fresh baked muffrin all the food was like the cheapest you can get from supermarket. BTW, the room has no shampoo and I was told that they been out for a while. Anyway, I am not going back that. Definatly don't try it if you not a "B&B' person. Also the price was awfully high I paid 139/night in the middle of Feb.

“honeymoon at gloucester”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 October 2008

stayed here for our honeymoon. we've traveled a bit and wanted something new outside of the normal "hotel" experience. the location is great. it backs up to the GLBT district, which everyone (waiters at restaurants, etc. gay/straight alike) raved about being very safe and fun area to hang out regardless of orientation. short walk to subway and good food around the block. the rooms are beautiful and have a unique aroma that reminds me of a jewelry box i once owned (its a good thing) even the hubby couldn't get enough of it. bed was Verrrry comfortable, and the jacuzzi tub was super great (although it does fill pretty slow, but SO worth the wait).
NOW... this is *NOT* a hotel... its an old mansion, and thus some comfort you might expect to come standard in a hotel you will not find here. i absolutely loved my experience at Gloucester, but i feel like i should list these so you know if this might not be for you. no luxury TV, just a little guy with plain 'ol cable. no shower or shower curtain, just a sprayer attached to the jacuzzi (great excuse for two person showers -hehe!) less anonymity ex: if you're shouting, everyone in the house will hear you.... think on that for a bit. no vanity space in the bathroom.. exceptional mirror, but no where to but the hair and makeup goods. These things to me were just small little details that didn't really bother me, but i could see other people not enjoying it at all. The staff was awesome! so friendly, always see them during breakfast, and their two dogs outside are gorgeous and very friendly. breakfast was probably the only thing that left some to be desired.. the pastry selection was superb.. bagels, scones, mini muffins with delicious filling, marble loaf, English muffins.. but other than that not much for a hot option or fruit. there was yogurt and cereal but it was the cheap rice crispies and corn flakes type options, nothing healthy or satisfying. but as the cereal selection was my only disappointment i can tell you i can't wait to stay again (i'll bring my own kashi haha!)
PS i added photos of the room that i took just for tripadvisor!! haha

“my slice of heaven”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 March 2008

My home away from home is at the Gloucester Square mansions on Jarvis St of Toronto.
From the jaccuzzi tub to ease away the stress of the day and an amazing selection of tea, to heavenly soft beds and linen to dream on and want to linger 'just a little longer' - except you know there is a wonderful breakfast buffet waiting to get you off to a great start.
I found 'my home' conveniently located, fairly priced, with WONDERFUL, fun and gracious hosts!
Thanks guys - my slice of heaven to come home to. Hope to see you often.

“A wonderful warm welcome”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 March 2008

You will get a wonderful warm welcome at this place which oozes character. Staff are very friendly and helpful. It didn't feel like a hotel so much as a home from home. Kitchen was undergoing improvements work while we were there but this was a minor inconvenience. If we go to Toronto again we will certainly return there.
